Anthony Tucker Beaudry
March 4, 1938 - Dec. 5, 2023
FLAGSTAFF, AZ - Sadly we share news that Anthony Tucker Beaudry passed away December 5, 2023. He was born in Cortland, NY, on March 4, 1938, to Susanne (Tucker) Beaudry and John Edward Beaudry. Tony lived most of his childhood and teenage years in the Homer-Cortland area.
He lived in Raleigh, NC, with his mother while his father served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He took great pride in his southern roots and continued to have cherished memories of his time there as a child playing with his cousins Arch-T and Reveley. He often shared stories of walking to the Capitol Building in Raleigh and climbing on the cannons, visiting local museums, and going to the Toddle House for chocolate pie.
After graduating from Homer High School in 1957, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Munich, Germany, from 1958-61, where he played football and wrestled on the U.S. Army team. He developed a strong fondness for Germany including the food, language, and people, and he often shared memories of hikes and travels there. Tony always was an advocate for the Armed Services for young men and women as a means to learn discipline, respect, and responsibility and as a place to make lasting friendships.
After the service, Tony went on to graduate from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies in 1965 and a Master's degree in Education in 1969. He earned a Doctoral degree in Educational Administration from Syracuse University in 1974.
He taught sixth grade at the Martin Luther King School in Syracuse; science at Virgil Elementary school; and was an Assistant Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Sherburne-Earlville schools. In 1974, Tony became Superintendent of Moravia Central Schools where he spent the remainder of his career before retiring in 1993.
He was fondly referred to as "Doc Beaudry or Doc" by many in the community. Tony loved sailing and skiing in early adulthood. He enjoyed hiking in the Fillmore Glenn, playing golf, and watching sports. After retirement, he was often seen riding his bicycle through the streets of Moravia. He loved hanging out with folks at any local pub, VFW, or Legion for drinks and kibitzing with friends. He was known to tell and embellish stories.
Tony was always a news buff. He read The NY Times on Sundays, and before the advent of online news, our home was a great place for a newspaper drive.
One of his priorities was dressing appropriately for whatever the occasion might be. Another priority was eating well. He enjoyed reading recipes, watching cooking shows, and reviewing restaurants. Eating together everyday as a family was a must. He collected books and toy soldiers and found great enjoyment and a sense of contentment sitting among family antiques and heirlooms that he loved.
Above all of his interests, his most important joy was the accomplishments and successes of his three daughters and three granddaughters and the love he had for his wife, Patti.
In 2017, Tony and Patti moved to Flagstaff, AZ, where he enjoyed the Japanese tradition of bathing in the trees, or Ponderosa Pines. He found joy in the blue skies and bright sunshine of Flagstaff. He enjoyed spending time and making friends with many natives of Flagstaff. He often commented that his six years in Flagstaff were the happiest of his life.
He is survived by his wife Patti; daughters: Sabrina Tucker Beaudry, Sarah Dana Beaudry, and Selena Elizabeth Ellison Beaudry; son-in-law, John Gray Blount Ellison III; and three granddaughters: Grace Tucker Ellison, Lanier Beaudry Ellison, and Ava Paar Ellison.
His greatest joy in his life was his family.
A memorial gathering of friends and family in Central NY will be planned for summer 2024.

Knocked off my chair (as we say in German) when I read of Tony's passing in Flagstaff, where I have lived since 1988 as Prof of German at NAU. Tony and I served (and played football!) together in the Army in Munich, and I have many fond memories from that time! How I wish I had known he was also in Flagstaff!
Would love to make contact with

To Patti and family-
I am very sorry to hear about Tony´s passing.
He hired me to work in Moravia. His respect for education and educators made a pleasant environment for those who worked there in those years.
I am glad to hear that he enjoyed his time in Flagstaff.
