Lyn Grant Obituary

Grant, Lyn
Lyn Blakley Grant, a fashion executive, entrepreneuse, interior designer and style-setter, died at her home in Phoenix, supported by family and friends, on the evening of April 26th. The cause was metastatic colon cancer. She received this incurable diagnosis 16 months ago -- according to her husband, Jolyon Grant. He states they decided to salute life while treating her disease. Life returned the salute. Fashion and beauty were in Lyn's DNA and were expressed both personally and professionally. Her career began at the early age of 15 in a dress shop at Uptown Plaza in Phoenix and continued through executive positions or ownership interests in such businesses as Diamonds, Goldwaters, Entz White Clothing Company and Tablescapes. Throughout her life, Lyn Grant was naturally showcased by her inimitable sense of style. She most often complemented her slim profile and lithesome grace with Chanel black and sunglasses ebony; sunglasses serving as headband for impeccably coifed hair. Having spent so much time for Goldwater's in New York, she never lost her Fifth Avenue panache. Perhaps one of Lyn's most endearing and enduring qualities was her ability to not take herself too seriously. She could laugh at herself, and did so often. It was a joy to be in her company. It was an honor to know her. It was a privilege to love her. Clearly, hers was a life well-lived. Lyn's way home was a journey of passion and devotion to the love of her life, Jolyon. In their 20+ years together, Lyn and Jolyon forged a bond that ran deep with love and respect, compassion, joy, commitment, selflessness, gentleness, and an intellectual and artistic curiosity that could only be satisfied through frequent trips to Canada, Italy, England or France (especially Paris, where Lyn found her "soul"). The final trip to Paris for Lyn and Jolyon was last fall, where they shared their continuing love of Paris with both French and American friends. Lyn faced her incurable cancer the same way she lived her life: with grace, humor, strength, incredible courage and the occasional glass of fine wine. She was an inspiration to her many, many wonderful friends and her family. Lyn said goodbye to her beloved husband and soulmate, Jolyon; his daughters and her great friends Trevi and Ashley (and Ashley's husband, Scott Cavanaugh) and adored grandchildren Isabelle, Sophie and Claire. She is survived by Bucky and Phylis Byron, her father and step-mother; her brother Bill Byron and his wife, Su, and their children Retta, Brecken and Graham; her brother John Byron and his children Courtney and Mary Frances; her sister Mikaelann and her husband Rick Deninno; and Gloria Blakley and Zodie (and her husband Steve Weaver), mother and sister of her late husband, Bill Blakley. To celebrate Lyn's life and accomplishments as wife, mother, businesswoman and memorable & missed friend, the family plans a private Fête de Vie in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lyn's name to Hospice of the Valley or the French Heritage Society, 14 East 60th Street, Suite 605, New York, NY 10022.

Jolyon,
I worked for Lyn at Goldwaters many years ago and was always inspired by her style, sense of fun, talent and especially by her heart. She was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside.
I have many good memories but one exceptionally special one was a very ,very over the top evening in L.A.
It was thirty years ago and the memory still makes me smile.
What a gift she was to everyone who had the pleasure of her company.
Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I will never forget Lyn's hair, parted on one side, stylish, even in our fitness classes. I knew she must have had an interesting life, what style she had, even
just seeing her in class In exercise clothes. She was way too stylish for Phoenix! I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I was so hoping she was just enjoying life in Canada. She spoke in class that she loved it there. She will be missed.

Jolyon,
I am sooo sorry about the passing of Lyn and sooo sad for your loss!
Lyn hired me at Goldwaters in 1979. She was an incredible boss- so much fun, so kind, so patient, so talented!!! I learned so much about fashion from Lyn and I looked up to her in many ways.
Lyn was ALWAYS stunning.. we all admired her!!! We became friends - Lyn and Blake were at my wedding in 82. I am sooo grateful for such wonderful memories...
We did lose touch after I moved to CA ,however, I was hoping to see her at the Goldwaters reunion at Pam's house and catch up. I believe she wasn't feeling well, that's why she didn't come-- but I was SO HAPPY to hear that you were in her life and that she had found love again!!!
You were such a God send (: and to read about your 20+ years together really warms my heart.
Jolyon, Lyn was a VERY SPECIAL lady and I really loved her as a true friend. I will pray for you and your family.

Jolynon, I never met you, but I was a good friend of Lyn's many years ago. In fact, I was a bride's maid at her first wedding and stayed at her home with her husband Bill in 1981. I lost touch with her after the plane crash and spent many years trying to find her. I was shocked to hear of her passing, and more than surprised to see she had been living in Phoenix all along.
Jolyon, Lyn was one of a kind - a beautiful, generous, and unique woman who really knew how to appreciate life. I'm happy that she found someone to love and to share her happiness in traveling. I would love to reconnect with Mikey. I live in Sedona and would love to hear from her. My email is [email protected]. Again, please accept my condolences. The world will miss Lyn's joy.
