Not sure what to say?

Connie Harris

August 17, 2006

As I sit out here wondering what to say, how to sum up what you gave me,

I realize that the chirping crickets (only 2),

The stars and night sky, country living,

And the Ford truck that's sitting here playing country music,

All things I love...

Are things I got from you.

From my house I can hear the drags at Speedworld,

Something I don't think I would like if it weren't for memories of you,

Some bad, some good.

Memories of your daring love of speed and fast cars,

Of the hills in San Francisco and the ocean and fear...

I was always afraid the brakes would go out

And we would go flying into the ocean.

I remember hiding on the floor behind your seat in case we wrecked.

I remember the thrill of the races and the racetracks,

The loudness of the cars, the speed and the adrenaline.

All things I love as long as "I'm" not in the car.

That reminds me of 4-wheeling, another thing I fear and love.

I'm afraid of the heights and the possibility of falling off the road...

But...

I love 4-wheeling, the places you took us that that we otherwise wouldn't have seen.

Like that one place at the end of that awful, scary road where the river started.

One of my favorite places in the whole world.

I wish you were here so I could ask you where it was.

I remember you thinking your truck was a boat,

Being in the river, sliding sideways and floating down-stream.

I drove you crazy so many times that you would tell me to get out and walk.

And on occasion I did!

You always loved rescuing people that were stuck.

You never liked, agreed with or participated in the Arizona practice of charging for it.

It was just fun to you and you did it for the sheer love of it.

I remember sitting in our drive-way one night listening to your CB,

Some guys were stuck out in the desert,

I went in and told you and we went and pulled them out.

It was late at night, you had NO intentions of going anywhere,

But...

You did,

And...

We had fun!!

My love of animals had to be from you,

A gift and a curse to us all!

I got carried away with it and, according to you all, took it way too far,

But...

That's me.

You were blessed and tormented by me and my animals through the years.

You gave me an extra year with my Dillon,

And you claimed you didn't even like him.

We all saw right through that though,

Even Dillon!

I love trout because of you...

And...

Shasta Lake and the Trinity River and Painted Rock.

I love cabins and outhouses,

Which remind me of Jody and skunks and tomatoes and bees,

Of bears and bugs.

That reminds me of the bear at the cabin that night we were locked out,

You said I scared the "you know what" out of that bear when I screamed

When I saw that bug in the cab of the truck.

Mustang cars,

I think we all got the love of them from you.

Ron, Mom, me, Jason and Shelly all had our turn.

Your Dad even bought one!

Of course, of us all , only I had Mom's and then Shelly's hand-me-downs

But Shelly's will be with me until I die and then it will be Aaron's.

Aaron thinks that won't be for 50 years or so

But...

I don't think it will be quite that long.

I didn't get your love of hunting

But...

I did get your love of venison, fowl and game...

And ketchup...

And leftover spaghetti and fried eggs.

I got your love of boating, water skiing and fishing too.

I remember the last time we went boating,

On Mother's Day.

You already had the boat out of the water when we got there

But...

You put it back in.

We went for a ride and Mom, Shelly and Zack went swimming

While Shelly's best friend Larry (The June) watched.

You insisted "you" caught that one fish I insisted "I" caught.

But...

It was a family affair,

You baited the hook and cast the line,

I hooked it and reeled it in,

Mom netted it and took the hook out

And Shelly, The June and Zack watched.

It was great fun!!

I got my sense of patriotism from you

And I passed it on to Shelly.

We listened to talk radio and went to "Support Our Troops" rallies

And I fly our flag and have great respect of our military because of you.

And my faith in God was from you too.

Your family was my introduction to religion

And though I didn't keep the faith I was originally introduced to

I was inspired to do my own research and have actually read the Bible,

the whole thing even, more than once!!

And even though I'm having my own issues with God these days

I never doubt that I will come to a place where I can see God again,

A place where I can make "some" sense of this crazy world I live in.

But, as for you, you already know the answers I seek.

You gave me more than I could ever list here.

Memories that I'll cherish forever.

You gave us the gift of lots of good friends,

Some of which have become family.

Dad, more than all the good memories and experiences you gave us,

The life lessons, faults and triumphs,

You gave us, your family, those here, close and intact to the end,

You gave us your all,

Your life of hard work, your love, your support,

Your laughter.

You taught us the importance of who and what really counts when the chips are down.

You gave us your fighting spirit, your hard-headedness, your HASSLE-R-NESS,

One thing that has gotten us all in trouble more than once!!

But has also kept us going and together through bad and good,

Through thick and thin,

Through sickness and health,

Through life and even death.

In retrospect, I said it before,

You are a part of who we are, of who we have become.

We will NEVER forget you.

We will NEVER stop loving you.

We will NEVER stop missing you and all you brought to our lives.

WE MISS YOU DAD - FOREVER!

WE LOVE YOU - ALWAYS!!

Ron,

Omer and I will miss you very much.

You were Omer's best man at our wedding and much more to us. You were more like a brother to me than a brother inlaw. We had a lot of good times together, from the time we lived with you and Leona in Oakland. I will never forget the time that you came and seen me like you were my husband when my kids were born. All of us will miss you very much.

Love,

Omer & Judy

I didn't know Ron personally, but I heard many stories about him from Leona when whe worked together at Motorola. He sounded like someone who would be a lot of fun to sit and enjoy a few drinks with and have a lot of laughs with. My heart goes out to Leona and to her and Ron's family and friends. I'm sure he will be forever remembered. The memories will carry through the sorrow.
