Virginia Yates Obituary

Yates, Virginia Pounds
Virginia Yates went home to be with her Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2014 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Virginia was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on July 30, 1926 to Bill and Polly Pounds. She met her husband, Richard, on a blind date at a square dance club in North Texas. They were engaged in July 1950 and married on August 18, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas. After the wedding they moved to Odessa, Texas where their only child, Becky, was born. They later moved to Monahans, Texas. She earned a degree in Elementary Education from Sul Ross University in 1967. The family moved to Dallas where she taught at three different elementary schools in 22 years while earning her Masters degree. After retiring in 1989, Virginia and Richard moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to be with Becky and her family. They have been faithful members of First Southern Baptist Church of Scottsdale where she volunteered in the church library. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Becky (Dan) Porth; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Musselwhite, Brian Porth, and Michael (Megan) Porth; great grandchildren, Rylee, Presley, Brandon, and Claire, and many nieces and nephews. www.greenacresmortuary.net

Virginia was a wonderful woman. She was kind, caring, loving, well educated and gracious. She was an elementary school educator who beleived in providing children with a good educational foundation. She had a strong faith and relationship to God which provided a great example to her family and friends. We were very blessed to have her in our family.
