Claire Patrick Obituary

CLAIRE J. (Veon) PATRICK
May 4, 1954 - March 4, 2021

Claire Joan (Veon) Patrick was born to John Edward "Jack" Veon and Friny Mary "Pappas" Veon on May 4 th , 1954 in San Francisco. She was baptized at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, San Francisco. In 1955, at one year of age, Claire moved to Bakersfield along with her parents her three older brothers, Steven, Thomas, and Phillip; and her older sister, Ellen. Claires younger brother, William, was born in Bakersfield that year. Claire grew up in Old Stockdale, attending Stine School for Kindergarten; St. Francis for first through sixth grades; Thompson Junior High for seventh and eighth grades; and West High School , graduating in 1972. Growing up, Claire was always very tall. Store bought pants and long- sleeved blouses were always too short for her. With the help of her mother, Claire learned at a young age how to make her own clothes. She was so talented, everyone thought the outfits Claire made came from COED, Brocks, or Broadway.

Claire married Daniel Patrick on October 30, 1976, and they had two Sons, Christian and Brian. Claire was very involved in her sons activities, including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, often providing rides to other scouts to camp-outs.

She acted as Room Mother several times while her sons were in grade school. When her sons were students at Garces Memorial High School, Claire was active in the Boosters and the Parents Club.

Retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles, Bakersfield office, Claire at one time was one of only two employees state-wide who had been qualified to test issue Class A licenses. Even when her sons were small, she continued for a time to travel daily, up and down the state, testing commercial drivers.

Claire was very active in the Prayer Blanket Ministry at St Joseph Church, later starting this ministry at her own parish, Christ the King Catholic Church. She was very proud of this ministry. Claire was a Eucharistic Minister, taking the Eucharist to homebound parishioners. She loved the interaction with all she served. Over the years, she was President of the Ladies Guild; a member of the Altar Society; worked Donut Sundays; and participated in Ladies Bunco.

Claires devotion to the Christ the King Church was only rivaled by her love for her family. Claire took extra special time with all her grandchildren; they had sleepovers, baked cookies and cakes; she took them swimming and taught them how to sew.

When Claire moved to Kern City it didn't take long for her to become active in all events there : Bingo - Bunco - Bridge; she was very involved in The Senior Center. Even with the pandemic, she was extremely busy. She loved to entertain at her home and she made people very happy.

Claire is survived by her sons, Christian and Brian Patrick; daughters-in law, Sara and Brittney Patrick; grandchildren, Irene, Savannah, Keira, Danica, Kinsley, Lainey, Brilynn, Hazley, and Cyrus; brothers Steven, Tom, and Bill; sister, Ellen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Friny Veon, and her brother, Philip Veon.

She was a great friend and her physical presence shall be missed! We prayed together many times... she brought me a prayer blanket after my surgery. Those are but a few of the memories I hold dear!
She made everyone feel special and loved. She lived her faith and it showed in everything she did. Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her!
I rejoice that she is with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the kingdom of our Heavenly Father! I pray He will ease the grief of us who mourn her earthly loss.
