John Victor Eckstrom, a beloved husband, father, veteran, educator, and pillar of his community, passed away on May 28, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 8, 1935, John's life was a testament to resilience, service, and unwavering dedication.
John leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, survived by his devoted wife Joan, and a large, loving family. He was the proud father of seven sons: Tommy, Dearrel, Benton, Michael, Billy, Mark, and Dale, and two daughters, Lana and Sherryl. His family was the center of his universe, and his guidance and support will be deeply missed.
A veteran of the Korean War, John served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he embarked on a career in education, shaping the lives as a high school teacher and coach. His passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as he instilled in his students not only academic knowledge but also invaluable life lessons.
In addition to his teaching career, John managed restaurants, showcasing his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit. In his later years, he dedicated himself to serving his community as a leader in the church, where his faith and compassion touched the lives of many.
John was known for his bold leadership and his ability to captivate audiences with his powerful storytelling. Whether on the battlefield, in the classroom, or behind the pulpit, he inspired others with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering integrity.
Although John's journey has come to an end, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable life.
In addition to his immediate family, John was preceded in death by his father Anders, mother Eunice, sister Ginny and son Dearrel. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
John Victor Eckstrom's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service. May his memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life will be held for John Eckstrom: Saturday, August 3, 2024, 2:00 p.m., Church on the Way Ministries, 2100 N Chester Ave., Oildale, CA 93308.
