Graveside services will be held at the Shafter Cemetery on Friday, June 21, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. for Lorine D. Giesbrecht, age 91, of Shafter who went to be with her Lord on June 18, 2002 in Bakersfield. Paul Giesbrecht, her grandson will officiate the service. Lorine, the oldest of 11 children, was born on January 28, 1911 in Coalinga, CA. She graduated from Kern Union High School. She and Ben were married on December 10, 1931 in Hanford, CA, and moved to Shafter shortly after, where they lived and raised their family. With the encouragement of her son, Benny, she accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young mother. She was a homemaker and played a very active and important role in her childrens lives at home, school and at church. Music lessons for her children were very important to her. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride to her. She enjoyed watching them excel in sports, school and careers. The grandchildren have very fond memories of visiting at their home in Shafter. She was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Shafter for over 45 years and attended faithfully until she no longer was able to attend. Lorine was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Effie Silva, husband Ben, son Benny, infant daughters Marilyn and Marlene, son-in-law Gregory R. Smith, brothers Harold Silva, Erwin Silva, Wilbur Silva, Bud Silva; sisters Elvira Grogan, Dorothy Dowell and Mildred Silva. She is survived by her loving daughters Carol E. Smith and Sharon Reynolds and husband Dirk; daughter-in-law Miriam Robnett; grandchildren Sheryle Saunders and husband Roger, Paul Giesbrecht and wife Sheryl, Marlene Gordon, LaRayne Brite and husband Mike, Monica Eknoian and husband Curt, Matthew Love and wife Jullie, David, Heather and Joshua Simmons. Fifteen great-grandchildren, sisters Lola Wallace and Alta Hall and brother Manuel Silva and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorine will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation begins Thursday, noon-8 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter.
