Robert our beloved father, grandfather and uncle, died on Friday, January 15, 2016 at his home. Robert (Bob) was born to Fred and Edna Westbrook, June 6, 1926 in Taft, California. Robert was a resident of Taft, New Cuyama, Bakersfield, and Posey, CA.
Robert retired from Atlantic Richfield in 1984 and finished remodeling his cabin in Posey, so they could make it their home in retirement. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and Korea. He enjoyed hunting and horseback riding throughout his life. His favorite place was his Posey cabin in the mountains above Glennville, which was his and Maxene's home for over 25 years until 2011.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Maxene Westbrook; both of his parents; his sister, Joy Murphy and his grandson, Eric Watts. He is survived by two children, Marily Kroh and John Westbrook both of Taft, CA; four grandchildren; Brian Watts of Huntington Beach, CA, Tyson Noyes, Jason Westbrook, and Trista Reich all of Taft, CA, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece and her husband, Cindy Kvek and Dan Cicairos and three great-nephews.
Robert will be remembered and missed by his many friends in New Cuyama, Taft, Bakersfield, and Posey. He is a member of the Mount Carmel Community Church of Posey, and attended church at Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Taft and graduated from Taft schools through high school.
He is a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion of Bakersfield, the NRA, and a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Graveside services will be held at the West Side District Cemetery in Taft, on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. It will be a full military and Masonic service attended by Pastors Harrell Knox and Archie Hawkins. Visitation is Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home located at 501 Lucard Street, Taft, CA.
A memorial service will also be held in his honor on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Carmel Community Church in Glennville. All are welcome to attend both services. To sign an online registry please visit www.EricksonAndBrown.com.
