JEAN CAMPEN

1924 - 2023

JEAN SHENTON CAMPEN was born on August 15, 1924 and passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023 with family at her side. In her amazing 99 years, her warmth and compassion touched the lives of many friends and family members. Jean's parents, Harry Wroth Shenton and Jeanette Eugenia Heydenreich Shenton predeceased her. Jean studied piano and cello at the Peabody Institute and, while in high school, played the organ at her church, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal. She was later married in that church and her children were baptized there. After attending high school in Baltimore, Jean attended Western Maryland College. After two years in college, she was married to Clifford Campen. While raising a family, Jean was an elementary school teacher. Most recently, she taught at St. Louis Catholic School in Clarksville, MD. She was also a Sunday School teacher at Grace Episcopal Church. Jean was an accomplished organist and played for years at local churches including Grace Episcopal Church, Dorsey Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Jean is survived by her children, Clifford Howard Campen (Marlene), Sally Campen Hallman (Brian), Leland Harry Campen (Mary deceased). Her grandchildren, Sharon Campen, Dr. Matthew Campen, Sara Stevenson, Amy Linder, John Brendan Davis, Christopher Morris and Lacy Campen also survive her. Surviving are great grandchildren: Robert Weatherly III, Jason Weatherly, Reese Weatherly, Jacob Stevenson, Isabella Stevenson, Ian Campen, Samuel Campen, Caden Adams, Feliciti Morris, Remington Marvil, Kaitlyn Linder, Gage Morris, James Linder, Delilah Morris, Sophia Davis, Mahki Graves and Layla Bauernfeind. She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Clifford.

Jean was a kind and special person who friends said was always happy, caring and complimentary. She was compassionate and was known for asking others about their families and their lives. Jean loved gardening and favored Iris, Daffodils and many others. Her favorite color was purple.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 5805 Main Street, Elkridge, Maryland on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 am. The service will begin at 10:30 am. A light reception will follow the service. Internment will follow at Druid Park Cemetery.
