Joseph Bobinski Obituary

Joseph P. Bobinski, 60, of Scaggsville, Maryland passed away peacefully on May 8, 2014 surrounded by his family after a 10 year battle with Prostate Cancer. Born February 16, 1954 in Stamford, Connecticut, he was the son of Paul Leo and Josephine Grabowski Bobinski of Niantic, Connecticut. Besides his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife Kimberle Rehborn Bobinski , whom he married on September 6, 1980 in Jarrettown, Pennsylvania. Besides his wife of 33 years, he is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Kristen and William Perryman of Laurel, Maryland; Melanie and Ronald Allen of Walkersville, Maryland; and a beloved son, Joseph Paul Bobinski, Jr. of Scaggsville, Maryland. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sienna and Kendall Perryman and Blake Allen, all of whom will miss their "Poppy" dearly. In addition, he is survived by two sisters and their spouses Virginia and Kenneth Wilson of Guilford, Connecticut; and Jean Anne and Daniel Amado of Allen, Texas and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bobinski was raised in Niantic, Connecticut and graduated from St. Bernard High School in Uncasville, Connecticut in 1972. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Assumption College, Worcester, Massachusetts in 1976 and received a Master in Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1979. For the past 35 years, he has been a resident of Maryland where he worked for the National Security Agency until retiring in January 2013 after 30 years of service. While living in Maryland, he was active in the local community and served on several boards and committees including the school board and parish council of St. Mary of the Mills in the 1990s and the Government Employees Benefits Association in the 2000s. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Patuxent Council 2203. But his most rewarding community service was with Special Olympics Howard County over the past ten years. Mr. Bobinski took pride in serving as a coach for numerous sports and coordinator for the Athletics program. But his greatest thrill and accomplishment was being able to compete in unified skiing and bowling over the years with his son Joey who has autism. Together they had won numerous gold and silver medals. He was also an avid sports fan and loved following the Boston Red Sox and the other New England sports teams when he could, as well as the Baltimore Ravens and Penn State football. In his spare time, he worked on his hobby of Genealogy and enjoyed traveling around the world to Germany, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Greece among others with his beloved wife Kim.
