Susan Filson

Susan Ann Filson ("Sue") passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, with her sons at her side, in her family home in Columbia, Maryland. Sue was born April 27, 1945, in Imlay City, MI. to William and Dorothy Lengemann.

She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1967, where she met and later married her husband, Ray Filson. Sue and Ray moved to Columbia, Maryland and raised their 3 sons. She was a teacher in the Baltimore City School system, later earning her Master's from University of Maryland. Ray preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her 3 sons: Andrew Filson, Joshua Filson and Matthew Filson as well as 3 grandchildren, Grace Filson, Lucas Filson and Angelina Filson. Sue also is survived by her brother, John Lengemann.

Sue loved her family fiercely, and was deeply loved in return as Mom, Grammie, Aunt Sue, sister, YaYa, friend, and neighbor. Sue was a vibrant person, always making new friends, active in her community, and always open to new adventures. She enjoyed nature, hiking, tennis, travel and was a diehard fan of the University of MI. Her travels took her worldwide, but the one place that held a special place in her heart was her family cabin in Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, MI, where she shared so many memories with family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her strength, independence, and dedication to family. Although her last few years of life were weakened by the grip of dementia and ALS, she continued to cherish the warm embrace of friends, and always found comfort whenever surrounded by conversation and laughter. She is gone but certainly not forgotten, she made our world brighter and a piece of her light remains in her sons, grandchildren and family
