James Lowry Obituary

DELAND - James Milton "Jim" Lowry, 93, passed away peacefully May 13, 2022, under Hospice care.
Jim was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, to parents James W. and Jennie Lowry.
He graduated from Upsala University in New Jersey, and served in communication intelligence in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Some of his greatest accomplishments were his fluent use of Morse code and his work on the Panama Canal.
Jim relocated to DeLand in 1955, and became a Spanish, French and media teacher at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, until his retirement in 1984.
Jim loved to travel, especially by cruise ships throughout the Caribbean, South America and Alaska, and being fluent in Spanish, he loved visiting Mexico most of all.
Jim had a love for ballroom dancing with his wife and dance partner, Mary, of 61 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca Junk. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lowry of DeLand; his sister, Jean Wolf of DeLand; his daughters Kathy Collum (John), Dawn Decosta (Dan) and Janean Haggard (Bob); son-in-law Lew Junk; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
Jim was a founding member, since 1982, of the West Volusia Amateur HAM Radio Society. A last call, or "silent key," for K4HXY was broadcast May 18, 2022.

We will always remember your presence Grandpa... we´ll remember fishing at lake, the boathouse, your love for travel, and your ballroom dancing with Grandma. Until we meet again
