LaVina Pearl Carolyne (Christie) Genrich, 88, of Gainesville, Texas, (formerly of Beatrice), died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in Gainesville.
She was born March 5, 1924, in Omaha, Neb., to Albert and Pearl (Westphal) Christie. When she was 6 weeks old, she moved to Chicago. Her mother passed away in 1934, and in 1936, she moved with her grandma to Beatrice. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1943. She worked at the telephone office as a telephone operator.
LaVina married Kenneth Genrich on March 5, 1944, at St. John Lutheran Church, Beatrice. They moved to Fremont and worked at the Mead Bomb Plant until the spring of 1945. They moved to a farm northeast of Beatrice from 1946 to 1948, then to Norfolk in March 1955, where she worked for J.C. Penney from 1955 until 1967. They moved back to Beatrice in 1979. LaVina's hobbies included reading and craft work. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice. She was a past charter member of Opti-Mrs. Club in Norfolk.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Davis, of Gainesville, Texas; grandchildren, Brent Herbolsheimer of Amarillo, Texas, Kerri Lippon of Henderson, Nev., Amy Echevarria and husband, Ron, of Amarillo, Texas, Angie Badia and husband, Scott, of Corn, Okla., Brandon "B. J." Herbolsheimer and wife, Jennifer, of Henderson, Nev., Dustin Davis of Gainesville, Texas; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great- great-grandchildren; brother-in-law,Walter Otte, of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Rector of Beatrice, Inez Hall of Beatrice; brother-in-law, Jon Genrich and wife, Marlene, of Greenville, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert E. and Pearl C. (Westphal) Christie; husband, Kenneth Genrich (2005); son, Ron Genrich; daughter, Sheryl Herbolsheimer; sister, Dolores Otte.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, with the Rev. Delmar Wiemers officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. A memorial has been established to St. John Lutheran Church with the mortuary in charge. A register book is available online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com for messages of condolence.
