Dr. Edward A. Sheldon passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 8, 1927. His parents were Everett and Thelma Blume Sheldon. Edward attended the Detroit public schools. He graduated as President of the Class of 1945 at Mount Clemens High School. He then attended the United States Maritime Service, where he graduated from staff officer's school and spent two years at sea. Returning to Michigan, he entered Wayne State University, graduating in February 1950. He then went to the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1954. After his internship, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, where he completed his residency in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He was then assigned to Orlando for four additional years. During this time he also served as consultant to several nearby Air Force facilities and to Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda. After leaving the Air Force in 1962, Dr. Sheldon joined the Beaumont Radiology Group in Beaumont, Texas. He practiced radiology there for twenty-one years. During this time he was honored to be elected President of the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Beaumont Academy of Medicine, the Louisiana-Texas Radiological Society and the Beaumont Tumor Clinic. He was also elected to be a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. During the years of his medical practice he was also a member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. In 1953, Dr. Sheldon married Marion DeConick Sheldon of West Bloomfield, Michigan. They have five children, Scot Sheldon and his wife Amanda of Beaumont; Richard Sheldon and his wife Nancy of Houston; Martha Bryant of Montgomery; Lorraine Sheldon of Beaumont; and Ward Sheldon and his wife Tracey of Houston. There are fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A family service with prayer and memories of those associates and loved ones he has left behind was held on Monday, January 17, 2011, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive.
