Robert Carleton Kinnear Sr.

Robert Carleton Kinnear Sr., 102, of Beaumont went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2013 at Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beaumont. He was born April 23, 1911, in Beaumont, Texas and lived in Beaumont most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Helen Megele Kinnear of New Braunfels/Austin, TX. He graduated from the University of Texas with an engineering degree, worked most of his career at Neches Butane Products Co. in Pt. Neches, TX, and was a Texaco retiree. He played football at South Park HS under John Gray and was the last surviving member of the first 1932 Lamar football team also coached by John Gray. His father and mother Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Kinnear came to Beaumont from Illinois before the turn of the century and were witnesses to the discovery of oil at Spindletop. His father was a school teacher in the early days of South Park and helped with the beginning of South Park Junior College that we know today as Lamar University. He was an avid sports fan and loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golf well into his 90s. At home, you could always catch him in front of the TV chair coaching his favorite teams, UT Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and Houston Rockets. He is survived by a daughter Helen Diane Kinnear of Houston, TX, and a son Robert C. Kinnear, Jr. and his wife Vivian Y. Kinnear of The Woodlands, TX. Also surviving are three grandchildren Blake-Leigh Kinnear Jackson and her husband Wade of Victoria, TX, Stanton Keith Kinnear of Beaumont, TX, Angela Borel Kinnear of Conroe, TX, four great grandchildren Parker Jackson, Noah and Carter Ramsey, Lukas Hosler, and other nieces and nephews. The family will have a grave side service at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 28, 2013 at Forest Lawn in Beaumont, TX.
