Arthur Bedian

Arthur H. Bedian, 90, of Glen Carbon, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born Aug. 28, 1922, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, Ill.

Arthur played on the Granite City High School basketball team that won the 1940 State Championship. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. Arthur was a life long member of St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, Granite City, Ill., where he served as past chairman of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, a charter member of the Armenian Youth Federation and was a member of the Daron Band. He had worked for Emerson Electric as a property accountant. Arthur will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary T., nee Knekleian, Bedian, whom he married on Oct. 18, 1942, in Detroit, Mich., and who died Nov. 6, 2004; his parents, Asadour and Elizabeth, nee Yeghiazarian, Bedian; and his sister, Sue Newman.

Surviving are his loving children, Lisa (Robert) Kurtz of St. Charles, Mo., and Greg (Silva) Bedian of Arlington Heights, Ill.; grandchildren, Knar, Garin and Daron; sister, Carolyn (George) Chalmers of Middletown, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family and friends.

The Bedian family would like to extend a special thank you to the Meridian Village Staff, especially to the care givers in the Hummingbird Lane Unit and to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Memorials may be given to St. Gregory's Armenian Apostolic Church, Granite City, Hairenik Association, Meridian Village Benevolent Care and will be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, Ill., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. Gregory's Armenian Apostolic Church, Granite City, Ill., with Father Stephan Baljian officiating. According to Arthur's wishes he will be cremated. Private interment will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.

Our condolences to Lisa, Greg and the family. We have many great memories of your parents. They were both always so welcoming whenever we visited and were truly interested in how our family was doing. Mr. Bedian was a true gentleman, and we always enjoyed spending time with him. I am saddened to hear of the passing of your dear Father. What a great man. I always think of him and your Mother with the fondest memories. He is truly going to be sorely missed.
