Charles H. Hilkey Sr., 80, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born March 7, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Charles retired from the Federal Civil Service, having been with AVSCOM in St. Louis, Mo., and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve with the 1009th Supply Group in Belleville, Ill. He was one of the surviving "battle babies" in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II and served in the E.T.O. following. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Caseyville, Ill. Charles was a avid bowler for many years and will be missed by us all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry C. and Alice L., nee Hauser, Hilkey.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo, nee Hiser, Hilkey; five children. C. Dianne Tucker of Granite City, Ill., C. David Hilkey of East Alton, Ill., Anthony J. "Tony" (Pam) Hilkey of Blackwell, Mo., Charles H. "Chuck" Hilkey Jr. of Belleville, Ill., and Kim (Don) Whitmore of Belleville, Ill.; seven grandchildren, John, Kelli (Charlie), Nikki (Keith), Michael, Katy, Robert and Samantha; eight great-grandchildren, Jake, Jessica, Holly, Kevin, Amy, David, Brittni and Kortni; a sister, Juanita (John) Grothaus of Cahokia, Ill.; mother-in-law, Hazel Hiser of Fairview Heights, Ill.; his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law; a special friend, Tammy; an aunt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with the Rev. Ralph Phillippe officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
