Howard Corrigan Obituary

Howard Corrigan
Howard J. Corrigan, 87, of Belleville, Ill., born Sept. 27, 1920, in Lebanon, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, Ill.
Howard, a graduate of St. Louis University, retired from AVSCOM (U.S. Army Aviation Systems Command) after 28 years as an accountant. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church; NARFE; AARP; and American Legion Belleville Post 58. Mr. Corrigan was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.
He enjoyed traveling in our great country, managing to visit all 50 states, and abroad. His country was dear to him and he was proud to have served it. His greatest joy and, to him, his greatest accomplishment was his loving family. Howard, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa left his family with many beautiful memories, never to be forgotten. He will rest in peace now in a higher place and watch over us as always.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, John Corrigan; his mother, Ida, nee Howard, Corrigan Potts; his step-father, Ernest Potts; a brother, C.E. "Johnny" Corrigan; a sister, Helen Peters; and a brother-in-law, Stan McCarron.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel R., nee Lorenz, Corrigan, whom he married May 11, 1946; his daughter, Kathleen M. (W.R. "Randy") Hartman of Prairie Village, Kan.; his son, Don H. (Susanne) Corrigan of Sunset Hills, Mo.; six grandchildren, Courtney (Steve) Anderson, Kyle (Natalie) Hartman, Clay (Kate) Hartman, Craig (Heidi) Hartman, Christa Corrigan, and Brandon Corrigan; eight great-grandchildren, Will and Liesel Anderson, Lucy, Zoe, George, Nicholas, Maggie, and Reese Hartman; a sister-in-law, Alita McCarron; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Rosalind Huling; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace School, Belleville, Ill., or to Family Hospice, 5110 W. Main St., Belleville, IL. 62226. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Don, Kathy, Mrs. Corrigan:
I was very sorry to hear the news about Mr. Corrigan’s passing this morning. While certainly not surprising, considering the information you had provided about his condition, it still was quite numbing to hear. I know that the past 4-6 weeks have been an incredible challenge for you all, one that was easy for me to relate to considering what we just went through with Dad. I just wanted to drop you a note to extend our sincere condolences during this difficult time. Mr. Corrigan was a wonderful man, one that I truly can say I don’t remember without a smile upon his face. His self deprecating humor and love of laughter (and a rather unusual laugh at that) are memories that I will always cherish from our times together so many years ago.
I truly hope the entire Corrigan family is comforted by their wonderful times and memories together. While we will not be able to attend Mr. Corrigan’s services in person, he will certainly be remembered in our thoughts and prayers.
Kindest Regards,

Bill & Lynne
