Shirley Martin Obituary

Shirley Martin
November 3, 1936 - July 5, 2023
Belleville, Illinois - Shirley A. Martin, nee Reinneck, 86, of Belleville, IL born Nov. 3, 1936, in Mascoutah, IL died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Freeburg Care Center.
Shirley was loved by all who knew her. Her warm, caring nature and cheerful disposition drew people to her. Her sense of adventure and desire to live life to the fullest, helped her make friends wherever life took her. Her family and friends were the focus of her life. Shirley loved to be with people and found a way to make everyone she met feel special and loved. The circle of people Shirley touched during her life is vast; she simply loved to be with people, laugh often and make memories.
Shirley grew up on a farm with a tight knit family which taught her the importance of family and instilled a strong work ethic. She had many skills which helped her excel in various jobs including florist, pharmacy assistant, wedding coordinator, golf course marshall, and travel agent. In all these roles, it was her ability to help people which brought her joy. Shirley loved being a part of communities and was active in several golf leagues, walking clubs, a Shirley club and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Belleville, IL. Late in her life Shirley took up golfing and traveling to Hilton Head with her companion Denny Luehder.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and extraordinary grandmother. Shirley created a family with Howard, whom she loved dearly. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. Shirley relished being "granny Martin" and had a special relationship with Tyler, Nick, Connor, Emily, Grace, Aiden and Cam. Shirley's spirt lives on through her children and grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar M. and Alma K., nee Funk, Reinneck, her husband, Howard I. Martin who died Dec. 8, 1996, four brothers, Oscar, Jr., Robert, Allen, Vernon Rienneck and a sister, Ethel Weber.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Traci Martin (John Stubblefield); son, Scott (Kelly) Martin; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Connor, Aiden, Cameron Martin, Emily and Grace Stubblefield; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

I am so sorry to hear of Shirley´s passing. She was the best neighbor (Spruce Hill). She was so sweet to my kids. I was so sad when we moved away - but was so excited to see her again when she moved down the street from my parents ((Tamarack). I will always remember her wonderful smile and laughter. Such a kind and loving person that I got to call my friend.
