Edith Jacobson Obituary

Edith Jacobson

1925-2014 Edith Jacobson, 88, a recent resident of Williamstown, MA passed away on January 18th, at her home at Sweetwood Independent Living Center. Edith was born May 18, 1925 in Vienna, Austria to Rose and Frederick Bromburger. When she was 12 years old, Edith and her parents fled to England to escape the wrath of the Hitler Regime. Two years later, they were permitted to emigrate to the U. S. They arrived by boat in New York City on July 7, 1940. It was there that Edith completed her high school education. In 1946, she received a Bachelor's Degree in French from Hunter College. After graduation, she worked as a medical social worker, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Dr. Morton Jacobson. Edith and Morton raised their two children (Lesley and Jeffrey) in Yonkers and Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Edith dedicatedly took care of Morton for several years before his passing in 1983. At age 65, she earned a Master's Degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Patient Advocacy. For nearly 20 years, Edith spent her summers in Somers, NY and wintered in Palm Beach, Florida. There she made a strong impact on the lives of several children, advocating as a Guardian Ad Litem. Edith was always passionate and outspoken about her beliefs; she worked tirelessly for many causes including: the State of Israel, education, health care and politics. Edith's biggest joys were her family, fluency in several languages, playing the piano, and listening to classical music. Edith leaves two children, Lesley Jacobson of North Bennington, Vt and her husband Ron Dubreuil; and son Jeffrey Jacobson of Brooklyn, NY and wife Carolyn Ghertler as well as two grandchildren: Micah Jacobson Dubreuil of San Francisco and Sonya Rose Jacobson of Brooklyn. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral service will be on Jan. 23, at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY followed immediately by internment at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, D.C. Guest book condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net.
