Richard Klein Obituary

The Lord Jesus has called Rick home. Rick, 74, lived in Shaftsbury, VT for 52 yrs. He died peacefully in his home on January 8. He was born August 1, 1949 in Bridgeport, CT to Richard G. Klein and Julia (Swan) Klein. His father was a contractor and a building inspector. Rick was educated in Monroe, CT. He graduated from Masuk High School in 1967. He graduated in 1969 with an Associates Degree in Building Construction from Dean Jr. College in Franklin, MA. He attended University of Houston working towards a B.S. in Architecture.

Rick met his wife Kandy O'Brien in 1968 at Dean and married on January 1, 1972. They had an outdoor wedding on the farm. Kandy later was called Kate O'Klein. They just celebrated their 52 anniversary.

Rick met the Lord in 1978 and attended Green Mountain Christian Center for 45 years.

His business 'Blazing Hammers' took him to Nantucket, Florida, New York and Connecticut as well as local.

He was a very active member of the Sons of the American Legion as well as a member of the Elks and Moose.

Rick loved to ski, golf, fish and hunt. He recently hunted with his sons and grandsons in PA.

He leaves his wife, Kate, and three children; Brooks of VA, Forrest (Jennifer Murphy) of Arlington, VT and Cedar Statmann (Christian) of VA and 3 grandchildren Cooper and Bruin Klein and Karly Stratmann all of VA. He also leaves a brother David and his family. He is predeceased by his parents and a sister. He leaves 4 brother-in-laws Rick, Ken, Tim and Michael O'Brien and their families.

In lieu of flowers, Rick would like donations to be made to Hale Mountain Fish and Game Club in Shaftsbury, VT.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, January 27 at 10:00 at Green Mountain Christian Center on Main St., in Bennington. A reception to follow at the church. All are welcome.

God bless y´all as you grieve the loss of Rick. His fingerprints are all over my house: crawlspace, basement, roof, porch and columns, clapboards, kitchen renovation, back room. I valued his work and gave his name out to all my friends needing construction help. We also enjoyed golf on occasion. Miss, you, brother; see you by and by...

To Rick's Family, may you cherish his memory and find peace. We didn't know Rick very well but were always impressed with the care and sensitivity he had when working on our 1772 historic house. Such a rarity.....and so greatly appreciated. May he rest in peace.

Oh my!! We have all lost a GOOD GUY. i go back 40-50 years ago with Dick and Kate. They are the best. We worked together on 2 stores plus our family place in the Adirondacks. Talk about honesty and one who was creative--none better. I just wish I could have worked with him the rest of my life. So, see all at the funeral--man I loved this guy!!.. Tony Davis

Rick was such a wonderful builder - he understood what you wanted before you did. He made a major renovation/addition to our 1812 farmhouse interpreting less than articulate plans from our architect. He was an artist in his own right - we turned to him whenever our home called out and the resulting workmanship was extraordinary. Rick, we will miss you so much.
Sending love to all of your family.
