John L. Herbert

1943 - 2022

John L. Herbert , 79, of Pittsfield, passed away on June 4, 2022 with his children by his side.

Born in Pittsfield MA on, April 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard John and Ann Simon Herbert. He attended Pittsfield schools and later The Cornwall Academy from where he graduated.

John cherished the time he spent with his family with whom he worked closely. At his father's school, Rockwood Academy in Lenox, he was the Athletic Director and Coach from 1965 -1975. He was an owner in The Great Barrington Fair and Amusement Co. as well as a Director of the Barrington Fair Association from 1977-1985. He then went on to own and operate the Dairy Cone on Tyler Street in Pittsfield with his brother until he retired in 2005. He was a warm, caring and kind person who will be missed.

He leaves behind his four children, Annie Emprima Martin, Jennifer, Daric, and Jonathan Herbert, as well as two grandchildren who he adored, Aeden Martin and Gavin M. Querbes.

He also leaves his brother, Richard Herbert of Pittsfield his wife Salam, two sisters Judith Herbert Abdalla of Stockbridge and Rosemary Herbert Carbon of Panama City Panama.

He will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

Funeral Services:

At his request, immediate funeral services for John L. Herbert will be private. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
