August 16, 1973---December 30, 2022
Jeanne, her sister Alecia and two brothers Scott and Clark, grew up on a sheep farm east of Morley. From an early age Jeanne loved animals and regularly brought stray dogs and cats home to the dismay of her parents, Gordon and Gwynn Galloway.
Jeanne loved to draw paint and had a wonderful imagination. At age 14 her first major adventure in life was flying by herself to Brazil for a visit with an exchange student she had met in school. That experience opened her world to the lure of new adventures.
At Morley Stanwood High School Jeanne excelled in art and was allowed to paint murals on some school walls. Jeanne was a cheerleader, ran the mile in track and elected to take woodshop. After completing a hunter safety course, she also harvested a nice buck on the farm.
With driver's license in hand Jeanne and her friends were invariably involved in teenage mischief and the Galloway cars suffered. Her father Gordon always said those years turned his gray hair white.
Jeanne graduated in 1992 and moved to Long Island where her sister Alecia lived. She started out as a nanny and then worked as a lifeguard, eventually taking a position as a loss prevention specialist at Sears. She loved New York, attending many New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square. She even camped out once in Central Park.
While in New York Jeanne decided she wanted to go by her middle name, Leah, and changed her hair color to red to match her strong-willed independent nature. The biggest change in her life, and most rewarding was the birth of her son Christian, in 2000. Jeanne embraced motherhood.
Before Christian started school Jeanne moved to Greensboro North Carolina where her sister Alecia now lived. There she first worked in childcare, then at a Deli/bakery where she developed her love of cooking. Jeanne took may road trips with Christian so he could spend time with his father, Harvey Soobrian in New York and to the farm in Michigan.
Christian passed unexpectedly when he was fourteen. Jeanne was heartbroken. For all the years since she has talked about him as though he was still close in her life and would soon be a part of it again.
Jeanne had diabetes since she was 2 1/2 years old. That disease complicated her life, but she always had a positive attitude and never lost her zest for life. She still loved to visit the farm and attend events at the Morley Community Center, which had been the building where she attended school. Though wheelchair bound, Jeanne still managed her diabetes, arranged her transportation to dialysis, doctors' appointments and flights to the farm. Recently she even traveled to Las Vegas and Austin Texas with her sister Alecia.
Jeanne's mother Gwynn passed in 2020 and her son Christian in 2014. Jeanne is survived by her parents Gordon and Mary Ann Galloway, stepfather Jim Jack, sisters Alecia Galloway Gerringer, Staci Towersey Ruiz, brothers Scott (Jennifer) Galloway, Clark (Holly Kyseth) Galloway and Russell (Shannon) Towersey, nieces and nephews, Claire Galloway, Ayden and Bryce Kyseth, Kim and Bianca Ruiz, Jessa Pettry, Nyla Cordova and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jeanne's family wish to thank all the Moses Cone Hospital Intensive Care personnel for the dedicated care Jeanne received and for the kindness the family experienced during this difficult time.
On August 12th family and friends are invited to meet at the Rustford Cemetery at 4:30 to honor Jeanne's life. The family will then welcome everyone back to "The Deerfield" (old Deerfield Grange 5 miles east of Morley 12970 Jefferson Road) where we can remember and relate how special Jeanne was to all of us and enjoy a meal. Those that would like to honor Jeanne with a gift could contribute to the Michigan Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Morley Community Center or
charity of their choice. Please forward Morley Community Center donations to P.O. Box 146 Morley, MI 49336.
