Blake Morstad Obituary

John 10:27: My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.

On Jan. 1, 2005, the world lost a great adventurer. Blake Walden Morstad was born May 21, 1980, and left this earth in an avalanche while pursuing his passion for backcountry skiing. Blake had many loves: skiing, rock climbing, the outdoors - but his deepest and most abiding loves were for Jesus Christ, his Savior, and for his wife Addie and their unborn child.
Blake grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and Plentywood, and attended MSU-Bozeman, where he earned both a master's degree in mechanical engineering and the love of Adele Myers, whom he wed in December of 2002.
Blake and Addie had two sweet years of pursuing Jesus and growing ever deeper in love. In the second year, they were delightfully surprised with the news that their baby would arrive in February of 2005. Blake's excitement about fatherhood, a new job in Los Alamos, N.M., and his deepening relationships with Jesus and Addie was tangible and tender. God's hand in Blake's life was evident as he and his growing family were blessed at every turn. His passionate pursuit of God encouraged and challenged those who knew and loved him.
While we do not understand God's timing, we lay our aching hearts at His feet, knowing His eternal trustworthiness. If even one soul turns to Christ because of sweet Blake's example, we will rejoice with the angels. Blake, your wife, family and friends will be faithful to your child, and your baby will grow up knowing what a praiseworthy husband, son and friend you were.
Blake is missed by his wife, Addie; and by their large families: Steve and Patsy Morstad, Margie Shortridge Morstad, Joe and Rachel Teipe and the Teipe boys, Erin Morstad, Scott and Monica Myers, Matt and Reese Schuyler, and Lane Myers, along with an abundance of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Chris Maki, Jason Thompson and Matt Schuyler: Thank you for your life-saving efforts. We love you three and Sam Kavanagh, and we praise God that you are all safe.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 10:30 a.m., at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Road, in Billings. A memorial account for the baby has been set up in Blake's name at First Interstate Bank through Amy Carter at PO Box 30918, Billings, MT 59106.

i want to express my deepest sympathy to Steve and Patsy, Margie and the girls and to Blakes, wife, Addie and their child. Blake was an exceptional young man! God must have an even more exceptional journey planned for Blake to have taken him so prematurely. My son, Billy, was a roommate of Blake's and expresses his deep sorrow in his loss. my other son, Joey, told me how he got to know Blake better when they were farming together this fall and what a nice man Blake was and how excited he was to become a father and was so much in love with his wife. My youngest son, Bob,also has fond memories of Blake. This is an event that has touched many lives. May God be with you all in your sorrows and may He comfort you as only He can. We only see this side of the tapestry He is weaving in Blake's life. Only from above is seen the complete tapestry. Love and Prayers, Alan and Diane Chandler

We are honored to have known Blake when he was just a little boy and now to see what a fine young man he turned out to be.I thought of my Grandpa Sophus Morstad and how he resembled him with a quiet and sweet spirit. We are so thankful that Addie and Blake know our loving Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus and will find comfort always with Him. With Love and Respect,Arno and Janice

I felt compelled to write and tell you what a beautiful obituary this was. I had goose-bumps while reading the entire thing. I'm so sorry for your grief, but also find comfort knowing that Blake and his family are close with the Lord. You will all be kept close in prayer, even by those you've never met. God Bless You.
