VENTURA, Calif. - Paul Steinman ended the journey of his life in his 95th year in home hospice on May 13, 2010. Paul was born in Columbus, Mont., on Dec. 28, 1914. His family moved to Missoula, Mont., when he was a child, where his father, John, owned a men's clothing business. John and his wife, Elizabeth (nee Birken), reared him, his sister Caroline and his brother Neil with a respect for education and fair play. Paul graduated from the University of Montana and did graduate work at Oberlin during the Depression. He was a Christian Scientist.
During WWII Paul served as a yeoman 1st class in the Navy. After military service, Paul found federal employment, ultimately with the IRS in personnel, and retired after serving in several locations, last in San Francisco. Paul was the devoted husband of Heather (nee Zillmer) - they had no children.
Paul requested that no service be held and that his ashes be scattered at sea off Ventura as was Heather, who passed in 2007.
Paul and Heather toured Europe early in retirement and led an independent life visiting friends and family. They settled in Ventura County over 25 years ago. They had many friends in the area and will be sorely missed. Paul was cared for the last three years by Heather's nephew, John, and Ana Deegan, as a last request of Heather.
Paul was preceded in death by his sister Caroline and his brother Neil; his nephew, Dr. Charles Everts and his wife Patty of Tucson, Ariz. His grandnieces, Desi and Amy, are married and live in California.
