Kelley Snow Obituary

Dr. Kelley Snow, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Kelley is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Jean Snow Carden, and his parents, Merle and Irene Snow. He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Snow Caddell (Michael) and Kristen Snow (Ben), his sister, Leila August (Steve), and his brother, Dwight Snow, as well as his favorite granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Caddell. In addition, Kelley is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, notably his namesake, Kelly Jean Self.
Kelley was born on August 12, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the eldest child of the late Merle Kelley Snow Sr. and the late Helen Irene August Snow. After graduating from Phillips High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966, serving in Vietnam as a Communications Technician on the USS Oxford. While in Vietnam, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He received an honorable discharge in July of 1972.
After serving in the United States Navy, Kelley attended Howard College (now Samford University), where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. After completing medical school, he began his career as an Orthopedic surgeon at Caraway Hospital in Birmingham and eventually transferred to Caraway Hospital in Bessemer (now UAB West) where he worked for approximately 30 years.
Kelley loved spending summers with his family at Lay Lake. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, photography, riding his motorcycle, driving fast cars, and fixing what the rest of us broke. He was a talented sketch artist and could produce professional quality hand lettering, which he learned while working at his father's sign shop when he was growing up.
Kelley was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by his coworkers, his many patients, and most importantly, his friends and family.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Regency Retirement Village of Birmingham for their dedication to Kelley during his final years. We are especially grateful to Felonia Jones for her loving kindness and friendship she showed Kelley.
A visitation for family and friends of Kelley will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM, also at Ridout's Valley Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum at 600 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Birmingham, Alabama 35211.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.

I was stationed with Kelley in 1969 aboard the USS OXFORD in Vietnam waters. Kelley worked in a different division than me, but I still remember him from standing next to him in the chow line or just seeing him in general.
We chatted on occasions, and I always enjoyed talking to him. My sincere condolences to his family, and may Kelley rest in peace.

Went to school and work at hospital together. He was always an advocate for his patients after surgery and made sure they got the best of care.He was always available for consults even when not on call.He was very unselfish and humble.

Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Dr Snow was my ortho doctor years ago and I worked at UAB West with him. He took great care of his patients. So sorry for your loss.
