Dear Linda, Casey and family,
I wanted to let you know that Coach Dunn was an inspiration to my sisters, and myself when we attended Vestavia High School and especially to my nephew, Chris Green at Spain Park. For as long as I can remember Chris had always wanted to play for Coach Dunn and attended a couple of his summer camps. He was very excited to play for Casey. Thank you to Sammy (who had no idea what he meant to Chris) and to Casey. Your family will be in our prayers....God bless you all!! Cleo Coker Class of 1984 VHHS

Our condolences go out to the Dunn family. My wife and I knew Sammy through his brother Mike. Mike and I played baseball at Montevallo together and Sammy would come and watch many of the games. I followed his career at Vestavia and can honestly say that individuals like Sammy are extremely rare and his passing is truly tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and the rest of the Dunn family. Sammy will truly be missed by all.

We were very sorry to hear about Sammie and grief with you. Sammie meant so much to so many people. I remember how much the young people in the Vestavia Youth Baseball program looked up to and admired Coach Dunn. Our Prayers are with you.

Coach Dunn is one of a few men that get to live their dreams. Sammy loved his family, Vestavia Hills High, the students and his players. What better Dreams could a man have? My son played baseball for Coach Dunn in'82, '83, '84 and '85. He feels that Sammy taught him much about life and handling lifes confrontations. Thank you Sammy for all the things you did for so many!!

Mrs. Dunn,
I am so sorry for your loss of your dear husband.Even though I only first met him recently at the parties for Amy and Wes, his reputation preceded him.I have had him in my prayers over the past year and will continue to pray for you and your family. It is a comfort to know that he hurts no longer and is in the presence of his Father in Heaven.I am quite sure he received a "Well done my good and faithful child" upon his arrival.Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Dunn Family
My heart goes out to all of you. Coach Dunn will be very missed. He was the first person to teach me how to drive. I will never forget he always wanted to go to McDonalds. If we didn't have any money, which was often being in the tenth grade,he would buy us a coke or some fries. There was four of us kids in my family that went through the high school and he new every one of us and our parents by name. I was the only one of the four kids who had a class with him and he still took time to know the whole family. He will always be remembered,by me anyway, as a legend in his own time. When I think of him, I put him right up there with Paul Bear Bryant. He will be missed very much.

My sincere condolences for the Dunn family. Coach Dunn was not only a teacher but a friend as well. He was so much fun and such a caring individual. I will always have fond memories of being one of his first Diamond Dolls. I was happy to see him a few months ago still being his cheerful self. He is truly a legend, not just from being a great baseball coach, but from being a fantastic person as well. God bless you in this time of sorrow.

To Coach Dunn's Family-
Wel all knew him in high school as Funn Dunn. In fact, he was my driver's ed teacher 'back in the day'. I remember him letting us drive him (and ourselves) to McDonalds & also out running errands with him. He was genuinely one of the nicest & most caring people I have come across. He always made us laugh and I will miss that most of all I believe. I am so sorry for your loss--we have lost a great man but he will continue to be in our hearts & memories.

I am so saddened by the loss of Coach Dunn. He was my drivers ed teacher in 1985-1986 school year. He was so much fun to be with and around, drivers ed was one of my favorite things in high school and he made it great!! I have been keeping up with his battle with the cancer through my dear friend Dianne Teer. My family has prayed so much for him and his family!! He made me appreciate the Lord so much more...because of his determination during his stuggle and giving it to Jesus 100%. We will continue to pray for all his family at this very difficult time. God Bless!!

Dear Family,
I am sorry for your great loss. I didn't know Sammy personally, but played against him while in high school at Daphne. He was a superb coach and mentor. He always was able to bring out the best in his teams. You could see his passion for the game and players, not only by his accomplishments on the field, but by his players off the field. He was a true gamer in every sense.
May God Bless everyone during this time.

My family's prayers and condolences go to Sammy's family. I didn't know Coach Dunn personally, but knew of his great reputation in coaching and of the influence he had on so many players and others. I was fortunate to hear him speak two months ago at a luncheon at Shades Mountain Baptist Church, where I gained an even greater respect for him. What a man...and what a wonderful legacy he has left! Just as I have been reminded of others who love the Lord and have passed away I say, "he's simply beat us home." And, in Coach Dunn's case, "he's safe at home."
