Florence Haugen was born at Maddock to Peter and Thea (Bratlien) Haugen on Feb. 21, 1922. Florence married William Hoberg on Jan. 14, 1941 at Maddock, where they farmed and had a dance band. Bill died of a massive heart attack June 24, 1976. Florence and Bill had three children: Sandra, Sharon and David.
After Bill's death, Florence enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician Training Program to obtain her certification. She served with the Maddock Ambulance Service and also as a nurse's aide at the Maddock Hospital. Florence married Claudius Wold on Oct. 1, 1977 and the couple moved to Bismarck. The couple was active in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. They had a Senior Swing Band; Claude was the emcee, played and sang and Florence played the piano and directed the group. They entertained at nursing homes, retirement homes, hospitals and an occasional out-of-town gig. She enjoyed golf and bowling. Florence moved back to Maddock in 2014 to the Maddock Manor until moving to Harvey in December 2018.
Her greatest accomplishment was helping raise multiple generations. One of her favorite sayings: "There is a destiny that makes us brothers. None goes his way alone. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own."
