Frances Schmitt Obituary

FARGO - Frances Schmitt, 85, Fargo, formerly of New England and Dickinson, passed away on July 11, 2014, at Bethany Home, Fargo, under the care of hospice. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Wednesday, July 16, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Monsignor Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. MDT today, with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7 p.m. MDT, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT at Stevenson Funeral Home.

Frances was born in New England and grew up and attended school there. She married Francis "Joe" Schmitt on Nov. 10, 1947. They farmed and ranched west of New England, until moving to Dickinson in 1986. Frances was active in church and community activities too numerous to list. She especially enjoyed pinochle, bowling, quilting, embroidery and travel.

Frances will be missed by her children, Derald "Butch" (Sally) Schmitt, Springfield, Mo., Charlene (Ron) Goethke, Arlington, Minn., Lida (Dan) Deutsch, Fargo, Lyle (Sheila) Schmitt, Gillette, Wyo., Cornella "Cory" Basol, Fargo, and Brenda (Paul) Haaland, Mandan; her grandchildren, Regina (Pete) Bushey, John (Susan) Deutsch, Paul Deutsch, Thomas Goethke, Robyn (Josh) Johnson, Sandi, Shelly and Stacy Schmitt, Crystal Samuel, Seraphina Basol and Robert, Joseph, Michael, James and Quintin Haaland; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances is survived by her sister, Johana Zauner; her brother, Peter "Tony" Urlacher; and her brothers-in-law, Frank Zauner, Anton Miller, Tom Lue and Andy Fiest.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; all of his brothers, sisters and spouses, save one; her sisters, Alvina Lue, Pauline "Josie" Miller; one sister-in-law, Frances Urlacher; and one son-in-law, Blaine Basol.
