Mary Gartner Obituary

Mary Gartner, 82, Bismarck, died June 5, 2004, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mary was born Sept. 17, 1921, on the family farmstead north of Richardton. She grew up and attended rural country school. Mary worked for several families in the Dickinson area, doing housework and helping with the children. She also worked at a local cafe.

Mary married Theodore G. Gartner on June 13, 1950, at Richardton. They lived in Glen Ullin until moving to Bismarck in 1952.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, baby-sitting, dancing polkas and going to the casino.

Mary is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Lowell Keller, Mandan; two sons, Randy, Bismarck, and Theodore Jr., Minneapolis; one sister and three brothers-in-law, Barbara Hardy, Oregon City, Ore., Ellyn, Bismarck, Terry, West Fargo, and Nathan, Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Casper and Irene Haag, Richardton; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in August 1988; five sisters, Eva Ihle, Isabella Haag, Rose Haag, Magdalene Polensky and Catherine Miller; two brothers, Louie and John; and two sisters-in-law, Arelene White and Joan Steckler.
