Oscar Ebel
WEST SAINT PAUL, MN - Oscar Ebel, 90, passed away October 8, 2023 in West Saint Paul, MN. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND at a later date.
Oscar was born March 1, 1933, at Medina, ND. He graduated from Medina High School in 1951 and attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He is one of three surviving children of the late William and Alvina (Duetscher) Ebel. On May 2, 1954, he married Helena Job at Tappen, ND.
Oscar worked for BNSF Railway (predecessor railroad Northern Pacific) for 43 years. He was a telegraph operator for 23 years (working many of the small town train stations of ND) and a locomotive engineer for 20 years. He retired in 1995.
He has resided in Bismarck, ND from 1990 to 2021. He has been living in West Saint Paul, MN since 2021. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Oscar will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Blessed to have shared his life with his wife of 69 years, Helena Job, two sons Richard (Kathy) Ebel, Woodbury, MN and Kevin (Brenda) Ebel, Jamestown, ND; one daughter Susan (Greg) Allen, Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Daley) Lehmann, Kimberly (Tim) Hendricks, Zachary Allen, Jonathan Allen, Aaron Allen, Kellan Ebel, MiKayla (Jake) McClean; and 5 great grandchildren, Sienna Ebel, DeClan and Delaney McClean, and Emma and Isabelle Lehmann.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emil, Walter, Arthur, Harry and Edward and sisters Mary, Edna and Arlene.
He is survived by two sisters Martha Dewald, Onawa, IA and Violet Joachim, Aberdeen, SD.

We have a lot of memories of Oscar working as a Brakeman in short pool and as a engineer trainee in long pool. He had saying get over here kid and sit in the hot seat.
We also enjoyed visiting with Oscar and Helena when they walked the mall and when we seen them In various eating places.

Oscar was one of the best engineers I ever worked with. His style of train handing was second to none. Great part of my life was working as head brakeman with Oscar. The conversations with Oscar about Jamestown were the best. I can honestly say if not for his railroading mentoring I don´t know how I myself would had made my 45 yrs. Thank you Oscar. No more holding on the hill "bring `em straight down to the yard office!"
