Scott Alfstad Obituary

Scott David Alfstad, 56, Bismarck, passed away March 20, 2014, after a courageous 14 year battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 25, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, with Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service.

Scott was born Sept. 26, 1957, in St. Paul, Minn., to Louis and Yvonne (Wadholm) Alfstad. He graduated from Neche High School in 1976, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After that time Scott continued to live his adventurous life traveling through many states working as a boilermaker and construction worker until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed many activities with his family and friends, which included auto racing, gardening (that he loved sharing with others), chopping wood was a favorite pastime, along with fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed and took great pride in teaching life's lessons to his grandchildren. Scott shared his days and his most difficult moments with his beloved pets "Dogger" and "Smidge."

Scott was very proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1976-80, where he became known as "Wisp." He enjoyed life to the fullest and when "Wisp got tired" he "wisped" peacefully onto his next journey, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Scott will be forever missed by his life partner, Bonnie Schwab, Bismarck; one sister, Kim (Kelly) Geir, Mandan; along with his daughters, Nicole Alfstad and Stasha Alfstad, also Bonnie's daughters, Cathi Kieper, and Stephanie Schown; his grandchildren, Katina, Carl, Tre, Renata and Lexa; his niece, Kayla Geir, and nephew, Kyle Geir; along with great-nephew, Brayden, and great-nieces, Bella and Brielle; and beloved dog, Smidge.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents. Scott's last act of kindness was to give others the gift of sight through the donation of his eyes, with hope that others would see all that life had to offer.
