Barbara COSSEBOOM Obituary
COSSEBOOM, Barbara J. Age 91, passed away on May 29, 2024, at her home in Braintree, MA. Barbara was born on March 12, 1933 to the late Alice and Michael Mahar and raised in Quincy, MA.
She was a graduate of Quincy High School and attended Boston University. She started her career as an office manager at AT&T in Boston. They moved her to New York City, where she later worked for the Associated Press and often reminisced about her love for NYC and working near Rockefeller Center. She remained working in NYC with Johnson & Johnson, before relocating back to Boston and ending her career at the Plymouth Rubber Company in Canton, MA. Barbara devoted much of her time volunteering at animal shelters on the south shore of Boston. She was extremely fond of animals and had a passion for caring for them.
Barbara is survived by her husband, John (Jack) A. Cosseboom of 65 years; her daughters-in-law, Elaine and Lyn Cosseboom; and her grandchildren, Hailey, Alec and Jack Cosseboom; as well as her nephew, Robert Mahar; and niece, Debbie Mahar. She was predeceased by her two sons, Michael J. Cosseboom and John E. Cosseboom; her brothers, Michael "Mickey" and Robert Mahar and his wife, Barbara Tappen Mahar. Michael and John were Barbara's most treasured accomplishments. Along with Jack, they raised two incredible men. She was a devoted grandmother who always cherished her time and travels with her grandchildren. Disney World with Hailey, Alec and Jack was always a highlight. Barbara was extremely proud of her grandchildren and her smile lit up the room when they were in her company.
Barbara was always an avid reader and loved going to the movies. She loved leisurely lunches with Elaine and Lyn, especially with a glass of wine. In her later years, daily crossword puzzles, reading, and watching television filled much of her time. She never missed an episode of Judge Judy.
Barbara's services will be private per her request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The National Brain Tumor Society in honor of her son John.
