Bernard Gruber Obituary

GRUBER Gruber, Bernard, Decorated WWII Hero, Industrialist, Commodore, born on March 10, 1921, passed away on May 14, 2002. Bernard Gruber received a Purple Heart after parachuting out of a B26 seconds before it exploded on October 19, 1944. A tail gunner, Bernard received severe injuries and spent the remainder of WWII as a POW. After liberation, Gruber married Betty Friedman, moved from Long Island to Dover, NJ, and became a principal in Dover Handbag Co., Inc., manufacturing and selling ladies handbags worldwide. He moved to Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where his love of competitive sailing led to his position of Commodore of the Garden State Yacht Club. Retired to Coconut Creek, FL, he succumbed to war related injuries. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 54 years, and three children: Ellen Schultz of Boca Raton, FL, Mark Gruber of Hopatcong, NJ and Robert Gruber of Mt. Arlington, NJ; 1 grandson and 4 grandchildren.
