DAVID L. SINGER

Singer, David L. 85 years old, died August 13, 2015, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. He will be dearly missed by his wife Judith, his three children Benjamin, Emily and Martha, their spouses Patricia Wahlig, Michele Torres, and Denis Pare, and his six grandchildren Noemi, Julian, Mateo, Owen, Johnny and Charlotte. He was born in Buffalo, New York, and attended Antioch College and the University of Chicago Medical School. He was a primary care physician in Lexington with a specialty in endocrinology before joining Harvard Vanguard in Wellesley, MA. He taught internal medicine for Harvard University at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Cambridge Hospital. After retiring he joined the ethics committee at Cambridge Hospital and continued to do medical teaching. He later cared for prisoners in Massachusetts state and federal prisons. He also headed the volunteer physicians program in Massachusetts and donated his time to seeing patients at the free clinics in Falmouth and Sudbury. A lifelong learner, David was active in the Harvard Institute for Learning and Retirement where he was past president and educator. He loved music and sang in the Arlington Choral Society and Berkshire Choral Society. He studied Spanish and spent time doing primary care in Honduras, and teaching medicine in Belize and Thailand. He was a member of the committee on Elderly Affairs in Massachusetts and was an avid gardener. He loved his home in Falmouth where he spent time with his adored children, grandchildren and many close friends. David will be remembered for his warmth, humor and grace, caring explanations and apple pie. A memorial will be held Oct 3, 10:00am at Harvard Faculty Club.
