Harold Gammon Obituary

Harold Ray Gammon, 60, died suddenly on Jan. 10, 2010, at his home.
Ray was born on July 19, 1949, to the late Jesse and Nora Gammon in Washington, Ind. He worked for 11 years with General Motors before joining the United States Army, where he would serve 22 years before retirement. Upon retirement, Ray was awarded with the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
He then began working with Main Ship, where he worked for seven years. He was currently working for security at Chemtall. Ray was active in the VFW Post 6602 and the American Legion Post 168. He was a skilled cabinetmaker, an avid fisherman and had unsurpassed skill in the game of Wii Bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Gammon of Hinesville; mother, Imogene Parkhurst of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; three sons, Jeff Baker of Hinesville and Zack and Paul Deardorff of Lemars, Iowa; one daughter, Hannah Deardorff of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Linda Stevens of Mooresville, Ind., and Vonda Haynie of Deerfield Beach; two brothers, Roger Parkhurst of Camby, Ind., and David Gammon of Shoals, Ind.; six granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Frank Scozzafava, Steven Adams, Roy Owens, Jeff Baker, Zackary Deardorff and Paul Deardorff. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Derringer and David Coutu.
Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors.
The family will receive friends immediately following the interment services at the VFW Post 6602. Refreshments will be provided and all friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
