I met Joanie in the early 70's when I became a member of Zonta club of Malden. Joan had such a sparkling personality, great wit. Her stimulating conversation drew people to her. If you were fortunate enough to find yourself seated at her table, you knew you were in for a fine evening. She was an inspiration to young Zontians. As it happened, I followed her to Dave Brickman at the Malden Evening News some years later and stayed until he retired. My condolences to her family. I know she'll be missed by many.

Everyone who knew our beloved Joan will most decidedly miss her. Joan's curiosity, generosity, grace, intelligence, kindness and warmth brought much light into our lives. Indeed, how very fortunate we are to know and love such an exceptional person!
Sorry that I'm unable to attend the services for Joan in Orleans and Malden; but due to my disability [person with CFIDS], I'm anchored at our home in San Diego County, California. Godspeed, dearest Joan.
Warmest regards,
Laura Catherine D'Andrea

I am so sorry to hear about Joan's passing.
I knew her in the early '80s when I was a young reporter at the Cape Cod Oracle in Orleans. Julie may remember Vanessa (Parks), Allison (Blake) and me looking to Joan for advice, salty humor and friendship. She hosted some great Trivial Pursuit games over at her house.
I still have a little wooden house that I believe she painted and gave to me for some reason.
She was a wonderfully nice, truly interesting person, and I will always remember her fondly.
Sincerely,
Catherine Pritchard
