JOHN LLEWELLYN Obituary

LLEWELLYN, John "Jack" S., Jr. On November 30th, John "Jack" S. Llewellyn, Jr. of Topsfield, MA, formerly of Hingham, died the way he lived, surrounded by his loving family. Jack leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Mary Martha Llewellyn. He also leaves behind his children, Missy Llewellyn and Nicholas White, John and Dawn Llewellyn, Robert and Christine Llewellyn, James and Jessica Llewellyn, and Timothy and Ellen McNamara Llewellyn and nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Pippa, Jack, Mary, Ned, Tim, Polly, Patrick and Maggie.

Jack was born in Amsterdam, NY to Dorothea and John, in January of 1935. He graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 1956, served in the United States Marine Corps as an Artillery Captain, and earned his Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1961.

Jack was the President and CEO of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. for fifteen years, retiring in 1996. He found real meaning in his work, and was particularly proud to have served a cooperative of family farmers. He was a member of several Boards of Directors including the Dean Foods Company, the Massachusetts Environmental Trust, a Trustee at St. Sebastian's Country Day School in Needham, and Derby Academy in Hingham. After his retirement he became a volunteer counselor at the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

Jack's proudest accomplishment was his family, and he cherished the formal and informal gatherings over the years. His warm, generous personality created a welcoming environment where there was always an open seat at the kitchen table. Jack was happiest when busy. He loved to cook, travel with the family, and getting involved in projects around the house.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Topsfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923. See www.Keohane.com or call 1-800-Keohane for directions and online condolences.

Jack was an awesome man. He was CEO during my tenure at Ocean Spray in the 1990s. I worked in the engineering department and then went on to create and produce the company's multimedia projects.

Jack was a down-to-earth guy. Every time you would pass him in the hallways of the corporate headquarters he'd always say hi to you. Our relationship with him was on a first-name basis whenever we greeted him. Moreover, he took the time to stop you in the hallway, in the office, and actually get personal with you for a few, asking how the family was or how I was doing in general. He made me feel like I was part of his family.

I really wish I had seen this earlier because I would have loved to have attended the funeral for this great human being.

God Rest Your Soul Jack... I hope to meet up with you again someday beyond the gates of this world. Crave the wave!

A truly great family man of faith and honor and an outstanding trustee of our School, Jack inspired and inspires us all, and we love him for it.
We pray that he rests in heaven and that his family and friends will be comforted by our Lord's peace, the peace that surpasses all human understanding. I have heard it said and I believe it to be true that death ends a life, not a relationship and that death is not the final period on the sentence; it's only a comma. Jack hasn't really left us. He's just walking on ahead. And we live in hope of one day walking with him in heaven. Still, the passing hurts, and I am so terribly sorry.
In deepest sympathy,
Bill Burke
