Louise DODD Obituary

DODD, Louise "Weegie" Passed away peacefully, on April 9, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. She was born on January 15, 1947, in Waterbury, CT and was the daughter of the late Malcolm Joseph Dodd and Virginia Smith Dodd of Litchfield, CT.

Weegie grew up in Bethlehem and Litchfield, CT and attended Skidmore College, graduating with a degree in math. However, she was drawn to helping others so she pursued a career in health care as a Visiting Nurse and administrator. She went back to school and earned an undergraduate degree in Nursing from Columbia and a Master's in Nursing from Yale. She ultimately became the director of what was then the Cambridge Visiting Nurses Association. Midlife, Weegie changed careers but maintained her desire to help people by becoming a financial planner with the Women's Financial Network in Bedford, MA.

Weegie often proudly remembered her mother's dedication and devotion to teaching third grade for many years. She also gave back to her community by volunteering at the Lowell Food Pantry and made jam for fundraisers with her wonderful friends at First Church Unitarian in Littleton, MA.

An avid athlete, Weegie played field hockey as a teenager and continued to engage in golf, cycling and jogging throughout her life. She was also a devoted fan of the Red Sox. With her wife, Nancy Olt, she enjoyed vacationing in Grand Cayman and pursued other travel opportunities. She loved all kinds of music and regularly attended the Boston Symphony for many years.

Weegie is survived by her wife, Nancy Olt of Lexington, MA; by her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Druellen Dodd of Branford, CT; and her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Anne Dodd of Mont Vernon, NH. She is also survived by her nieces, Jennifer, Emily and Laura; and her nephew, Peter. The family wishes to thank and commend D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell, MA, for their kindness and outstanding care of Weegie for over seven years.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for early summer. Donations in Weegie's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org or your local food pantry.

I had the pleasure of caring for Weegie over the last five years. She didn´t communicate much during that time, but she was a gentle person. She even surprised us at times with a word or two, and eye contact with a perfectly timed nod, when we would speak to her! I am happy for Weegie, that she is finally at peace after a long journey. My thoughts are with you Nancy, Anne, and your family. XO

Weegie was always kind, supportive and helpful as a friend and as a professional. I remember fondly the clock in Nancy and Weegie´s home that chimed each hour with bird song. I can now imagine Weegie at peace whenever I hear a bird expressing its freedom to sing.

To Nancy and Weegie's family and friends: Many of you know how much I loved Weegie. It was heartbreaking to watch someone so bright suffer through Alzheimers but your care of her mattered. My heart aches for you all. With sympathy, Alison Chase
