MARK BEDELL Obituary
Mark was born in Boston in 1961 and raised in Andover, Massachusetts. Raised in an extended Irish-Polish family with deep roots in South Boston, Mark grew up in a close-knit neighborhood of shared backyards and good friends. After graduating from Phillips Academy Andover, Mark studied International Finance and Russian at the University of Pennsylvania. After a successful career in finance, Mark went on to travel the world and live a truly remarkable life. Pairing his passions for language and finance drove him to spend a great deal of time in the remnants of the former Soviet Union, where he worked tirelessly to help the affected people rebuild their economy. He remained active in finance throughout his life, and eventually retired to a private paradise in the mountains of Puerto Rico with Val.
Mark spent his life seeking out those in need. A recovered addict, Mark treasured his sobriety and gave deeply of himself to empower others on their own journeys to recovery. In addition to sponsoring many people in need, he established a sobriety group in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His dedication to helping others included a lengthy study of plant spirit medicine and natural healing techniques. Mark improved the lives of those around him, sharing his time, friendship, and heart with everyone that he met. His kindness and gentle strength inspired those around him.
In addition to his beloved partner Val, Mark is survived by his brothers and their families: Christopher Bedell and his wife, Julia, Brian Bedell and his wife, Beth, and Andrew Bedell and his wife, Emily. He also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews, and a grandnephew who miss him dearly.
Val and other family will hold a Celebration of his Life in August in Puerto Rico.

So sorry to hear of Mark´s passing. He was too young. I remember him from Junior High in Andover MA. He loved French Class! He was so funny and smart. We lost touch over the years. But he clearly was so accomplished and fortunate to have had such a loving life partner as you Val. So sorry for your loss.

I also haven't met you, Val, but I'm so sorry for your loss. I just read this sad news yesterday in the latest Phillips Academy Andover alumni magazine.
I was in Mark's class and worked with him in 1978 at a Phillips Academy summer job. I really liked Mark and I'll never forget the comradery working with him those two months: he was fun and so smart - but modest, which made him even more likable. For years I've thought about that time and it always makes me smile and feel happy! I will never forget Mark - he was great.

Val, While I haven't met you, I wanted to extend my deepest condolences. I met Mark in the summer of 1987 and we stayed in touch and spent time together frequently over the next several years, eventually heading in different directions. I will never forget him, though, he was a kind, generous, funny man who enriched the lives of the people around him. Peace be with you in this difficult time.
