Dear Norman's folks,
I am so sorry to hear of Norman's death. I worked with him for many years in the antiquarian book trade, and as an officer in MARIAB. He was always happy, friendly, and ready to share his knowledge with us all. Every time we met up, wherever it was, he would inquire into my family's well-being; he always had a good word to help deal with the struggles of daily living. He was a fine man, and I am sure that all who knew him will feel that the world has lost a good soul. I know I do.
With sincerest condolences.

I used to see Norm quite a bit when my bookshop was in Somerville. He was one of the kindest, friendliest people in the bookseller community. I always thought I'd see him again, and am devastated to know that he is gone.

I know that no words can make amends for the great loss you have sustained. I deeply realize that expressions of condolence wholly fail to restore the loved and loss one, yet I can not hope that the heartfelt sympathy of a sincere friend will not deem intrusion on your grief.
It has been well said, that “we weep for the loved and lost because we know that our tears are in vain.” I would ease the sorrow, and yet know not how. We can only acknowledge that the inflection is Gods will. Over in the beautiful land to which I trust Norman has gone, we may not doubt, he is free from the pains that he so long endured here. When we gather at the river, is it not sweet consolation to think that among the loved and lost he may meet us on the other side? Commending you to Him who does all things well, I remain, in the tenderest friendship.

Dear Kathy, Lillian and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Norman's death. It must have been a terrible shock for you all. Norman was a good man. He really enjoyed his family and lately his grandkids. He was always happy to be in Hull. The last time I remember seeing him he and Kathy were coming back from the beach and I was trying to do some task and he insisted on doing it for me. He was very kind and helpful and we in Pemberton will truly miss him. Please accept my condolences. God bless you all. Sincerely, Bernadette White

Norman was a man who did and acted, whatever the need or cause, quietly and without fanfare. I will remember his many good deeds and friendship.

Dear Starr family,
My brother just called with this shocking news this morning, and I am still stunned. Norman has been a steady presence in my Pemberton life since I was a little girl, and it is impossible to imagine a summer without a surprise visit from him on our Arthur Street porch. Please accept condolences from all of us in the Shafran/Palladino family.
Love, Stephanie

Cathy, Seth and Devin - my thoughts and prayers are with you this day and for all the difficult days ahead. Find comfort in the beautiful memories of a wonderful man, a good husband and father, friend and grandfather. My memories of Norman are many: his smile, his generous nature, his caring, and of course, his books. The last time I saw him, he was playing with my little granddaughter and she loved him even though she'd just met him. He will be missed by all.
