Dear Bob,
Thank you for the time we had together back in the 1970's. May your soul rest in peace.

Bob deserved the rich life he lived. His strong mind was matched with an open heart. I'm grateful for the welcome he always extended to me and the loving role he played in my sons' lives. I send loving condolences to the family.

I know that you are very sick and I share your pain, and pray for you. You have always felt like a best friend or a brother. You have always treated me the same, we have had great times together. Here are a few of my good memories.
1.Going to the Jai Lai Fronton in Tijuana. We won or lost $20, and your favorite player was called by you the Hamburger. We traveled to those games in the ugliest car I have ever seen in my life- an old Nash convertible! Pea green.
2. Bob and I spent several weekends planting grass at his new house at 1135 Skylark Drive in San Diego. He bought way too much sawdust to add to the dirt, we used a beautiful wooden bed headboard tied behind the Nash to spread it- Lovely wife Beverly was very upset for ruining the headboard
3.My great mistake in San Diego was coating Robin with one gallon of Blue Cabot stain paint. I put a full gallon of stain on the top of a flip up garage door before lunch. After lunch, I closed the door to paint it, and the paint fell off and coated Robin- head to toe. Bev almost punched me.
4.My next stop was Boston when I was 16. My new job was rake rocks for a proposed tennis court and help Bev with Timmy, Robin, Peter, Chris, and Mary Alice. It was like herding cats. The older boys, didn't get in trouble- they stayed in trouble! I was trying to do some work on the roof and they found a full be hive in a tree, and through it on the roof. 5 bee stings later-I got off the roof-laughing like crazy
5.Bob and I would play ping pong in the evening. He would play left handed to make it fair. Until he would start losing, then switch to the right hand. I never saw him switch. My penalty for losing, was making up beds.
6.Bev and Bob decided I needed a date. So they set me up with their weekly housecleaner- very beautiful and 17. Bob suggested I take the very old Porsche. He got it started by pushing me down the driveway. They promised me the battery would charge in 10 minutes. After I picked up the girl and met her mother the battery was dead. The girl and her mother had to push me to get a jump start. Worse date in my life.
7.Always a low cost innovator, Bob built a great tire swing in the front yard near the driveway- it was a great hit with all of the children.

i have many wonderful memories of Uncle Bob, which I hope to share when we all can come together to celebrate his life.
(The time he visited us in Chicago, picked up Mom, Dad and me in his rental car, and drove us into the city to have dinner. (Oh yeah, at 100 mph on the expressway. The first and only time I saw my Dad speechless.))
(The time he drove Rob and me to Suffolk Downs to see the Beatles, after Aunt Bev accidentally dropped us off at the wrong place. In his Porsche. Then waited for us 'til the concert was over.)
Many more memories, but most recently I remember how he stood by me (and with me) during the difficulties I faced after Mom died. His loyalty and generous support got me through the roughest time of my life, and his continued support and generosity are so, so appreciated.
To all my dear cousins, I am so sorry for your loss. I look forward to seeing all of you when things have settled down enough to meet, and we can celebrate Bob's life.
Love,
Nancy
