SUZANNE O'LOUGHLIN Obituary

O'LOUGHLIN, Suzanne Mary NP Loving Wife and Mother Suzanne Mary O'Loughlin slipped the surly bonds of Earth and passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 4th at her home after a short illness. Born in Methuen, Massachusetts on August 27, 1952, she grew up in North Andover and graduated from Presentation of Mary Academy before continuing on to MGH School of Nursing, where she became an RN. She then received her BSN from Saint Joseph's College of Maine and became an NP through the Albany Medical College Nurse Practitioner program. Throughout her career she worked at Holy Family Hospital, MGH, and CCP in Latham, NY for over 30 years. She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Francis O'Loughlin, and cherished Uncle Vincent O'Leary. She is survived by her loving husband Paul Mercaitis, her loving son Dr. Orion Mercaitis, elder sister Dorothy Seed, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and patients. Although grief fills the room up with her loss, there is solace in knowing she was not only loved but belovèd. She loved visiting Provincetown, the ocean, and her garden. Remembrances may be made through Cannon Funeral Home of ALBANY, NY and contributions made to the West End Racing Club of Provincetown, MA and the St. Peter's Volunteer Cuddler program. Services are private.

I am so sad to hear if Suzanne's passing. I worked with her for a few years and she was my provider for about 20 years (until I moved to Florida) and she was my mother's provider for 30 years, until my mom passed. I met a patient from NY here in Florida and we got talking about the area. His wife was a patient of Suzanne's until her retirement. When her told me of her passing, I had a hard time finishing my work day. She was a unique human. She cared so much and I trusted her more than any Dr I've ever met. A beautiful soul gone too soon. My condolences to her husband and son

Suzanne was one in a million. She cared, she listened, she sought to understand. She had a special ability to connect with people. That doesn´t exist any more, except maybe in her son, Orion. I will forever be grateful for you, Suzanne

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Suzanne. She was more than my health care provider, she was a comforter, a counselor, and a trusted advisor. She cared for me over 3 decades.

I was so hoping after her career was ended she would be traveling and enjoying her life and loving her family time.

She made a true difference for so many.

Suzanne was my person at CC for years before she retired. She helped me through some very, very dark times after my husband died, and I will be forever grateful. She was so proud of her son, and so looking forward to more time w him and her husband upon retirement.

Suzanne was my NP for almost 30 years. I was so happy for her to retire- even though I knew I would miss her tremendously! We had much in common- sharing stories (and pride) of our only sons as well as the usual important events in our lives. She helped me navigate a very long and difficult time as a full time caregiver to my husband- especially as it was usually impossible for me to leave the house- I will be forever grateful. I truly grieve for Paul, Orion and for all of this remarkable woman's friends and family- a terrible loss. May you find peace...

I just learned of Suzannes passing ( we dont get the newspaper) and am heartbroken. She was the best provider I ever had throw out the 20 years. Ive read others comments here and underscore them. She was just amazing...personally and professionally. Maybe shes blessing her family friends and patients from that star in the Orion constellation I gave her for retirement. She was so delighted that it connected with her son. Rest joyfully Suzanne and thank you!

To Suzannes loved ones: I am so very sorry to hear of her passing! She was the *first* medical professional to ever listen to me and my concerns and seek answers on my behalf. She cared. She really cared. And that made a heck of a difference in my outlook on life. She was a truly beautiful person and a compassionate healer who will be missed. My deepest sympathies to all.

I am so sad to hear of Suzanne's passing. She was my NP for years (30?) and was so wonderful, caring and funny. She always listened to me. We got older together. I was selfishly sad when she retired but I was thrilled that she finally did it. To her family, she was wonderful. I am so sorry for your loss.

I have just come across this horrible news. I am shocked and deeply saddened. I was a patient of Suzannes for over 30 years. My heart goes out to her family. Suzanne was my wife's and my practitioner for over 20 years at CCP. She was EXCELLENT. I remember, in the waning months of Lia's illness (cancer), Suzanne called the house and spoke with Lia. I thought that was very special..She was also the caregiver for Lia's two daughters. She is now watching down on us with her love and affection.

My heart broke this morning when I read that Suzanne passed. She was our family NP since 2003. She was a kind, generous with love, and extremely knowledge woman. She loved my son Bill, who is Autistic. Suzanne treated him with dignity and love. My prayers and condolences go out to the family. When we would visit her, we always asked about that incredible son. And with pride and much much love, she would fill us in. Donna Tuttle
