VIRGINIA DROGUE Obituary

DROGUE, Virginia Baker 89, of Marblehead and formerly of Francestown, NH, passed quietly at her home after a long struggle with Alzheimers disease on November 1, 2013. She was the wife of the late Walter "Jerry" Drogue of Marblehead. Ginny was a graduate of North Quincy High School and later a Davis Scholar at Wellesley College. She worked for many years at the Boston law firms of Choate Hall and Stewart and Hemenway & Barnes in the trust department as a tax accountant where she mentored many young attorneys in the area of trust administration. An avid investor, golfer and traveler, Ginny was always up for the adventure. She was a longtime member of the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead. Ginny is survived by her sister, Elaine B. Plakias of Duxbury; three nieces, Alexandra, Anastasia, and Lydia Plakias; and four nephews, Christopher, Mark, Dean, and Justin Plakias. Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, MARBLEHEAD, on Wednesday, November 6 from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. A private graveside service will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ginnys memory to the Walter G. Drogue Fund at The Boston Athenaeum, 10½ Beacon Street Boston, MA 02108. Please visit the online guestbook at www.eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com

I think of Ginnie every week. She was a friend, she was an inspiration. She was, to our family, a gift.

I met Ginny for the first time in 1978 when I was a Northeastern co-op at Choate, Hall & Stewart. She started out as my boss, but became a wonderful teacher, mentor and friend. I feel privileged to have worked with her for so many years.

Ginny represents the end of an era for me. She was in my life since I was an infant. She worked for my father during WW11 and she and Jerry remained good friends of my parents (Anne & Harry Kemelman) throughout their lives. A very gracious, lovely lady

My Aunt Ginny was one of a kind. Fiercely Independent and seemingly fearless, she came from a generation of women raised to keep quiet, but that wasn't Ginny's style. She had an opinion about everything, and pursued an education and career in a field that was not easy for women to break into at the time. She was an inspiration to me, and had a huge hand in making my own college education possible. The world lost a bit of fire when Ginny passed but her memory will continue to inspire. It is with gratitude, love and respect that I bid my Great Aunt goodbye.

To have had Ginny as an elder providing me guidance and wisdom at various points of my life has been both an honor and a schooling in values that are more precious than ever. Ginny was passionate in her belief that there was a right way to do anything, and steered us in that direction with agile wit and energy. There will not be another like her, that is for sure. Her devotion to Jerry was inspirational, I think she missed him very much, that they are reunited now is truly a blessing for her....Rest and enjoy Ginny, we will try and carry on the best we can down here without you, but it sure won't be the same.

Ginny was a good friend and fellow golfer. I feel privileged to have spent time with her both on the golf course and at her home. She was very intelligent and had a great sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Pat Lausier

Ginny was a wonderful person and a friend whom I shared many rounds of golf with at Tedesco CC and many hours of chatting and laughing at lunch with our women golfers. May she rest in peace and her memory be eternal....

My Aunt Virginia was an incredibly strong and funny person. She loved her cats, and golf, and watching the boats in the harbor from her living room. When we were kids, she was always game to dress up in silly hats or outfits with us; she never pulled punches with us or talked down to us because we were young, though. She was a real straight-shooter, and we loved her for it. As sad as I am to learn of her passing, I'm comforted to know she spent her final time at home, looking out at the view she loved-- for someone as independent as Aunt Ginny, I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Ginny and Jerry Drogue were a devoted couple.
Gerry was one of the best teachers that I have ever worked with at Marblehead. I was privileged to have known them both.
