WILLIAM HANSIS Obituary

HANSIS, William "Bill" Of Cambridge, passed away peacefully, on November 14, 2023. He was the youngest son of the late Joseph Hansis, Sr. and the late Grace (Donnelly) Hansis of Cambridge. When Bill was born on November 23, 1956, no one could imagine the remarkable life that he would lead over the next 67 years. His family life was joyful with his siblings, Elaine, Joe and Gary. Growing up, the family enjoyed annual summer vacations to Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Bill was a proud alumnus of the Cotting School, graduating from the Boston Campus in 1976. He had countless fond memories of his classmates and teachers. He cherished his time at Cotting and enjoyed attending the annual reunions and seeing other alumni. Bill enjoyed a distinguished career as an employee of the Cambridge Public School System. He was admired and respected by his bosses, coworkers and the high school students he encountered every day. He retired in June 2022, after 43 years of dedicated service. Bill enjoyed travelling. He went on cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He traveled to New York City, Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with family at Lake Winnipesaukee and in York, Maine. Bill enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly, playing Bingo and doing Sudoku. He followed the Bruins and even had his picture taken with the Stanley Cup. He enjoyed eating out at Jimmy's Steer House, Frank's Steak House and the Stockyard. Bill is survived by his sister, Elaine Kneeland and her husband, Bill of Sudbury; and his brother, Gary Hansis and his wife, Kathy of Malden. He leaves his nephew, Adam Kneeland and his wife, Erin of Watertown; his nephew, James Hansis and his wife, Veronica of Georgia; and niece, Kathryn Hansis of Vermont. Bill leaves four great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Hansis, Jr. Bill was gentle, strong, courageous, loving and lovable. Words cannot describe how much Bill will be missed by those who loved him. Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Rd., BELMONT, Monday, November 20, at 9:00. I will always remember Bill for his cheerful greeting and upbeat attitude when I would see him in the halls at CRLS. At the gathering when he retired, we shared how we both enjoyed spending time in Maine and he said how he was looking forward to having more time in retirement to spend time with family members in Maine. He was a sweet man. I am sorry for your loss.
