WILLIAM MCCARTHY Obituary

McCARTHY, William A. Age 94, of Tewksbury and Salem, NH, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Prescott House in North Andover. He was the beloved husband of Beverly Ann (Jenkins) McCarthy, with whom he shared sixty-eight years of marriage. A son of the late John and the late Margaret (Jackman) McCarthy, he was born April 14, 1928, in Somerville. At the Boys and Girls Club of Charlestown, Bill discovered his love of photography. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Army, and by 18 was placed in charge of filming the War Crimes Trials in Tokyo, Japan, serving under General MacArthur. Bill earned a Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern University in Electrical Engineering and worked at Texas Instruments, Raytheon and Centon Electronics until he finally retired at the age of 76. Bill was part of the team responsible for the development of the semiconductor. Bill was an artist and a builder. He loved all music, played the trombone, sang with his beautiful voice when ever possible with his daughter, and dabbled in local theater.  He spent many hours rebuilding cars and everything else in need of repair with his two sons. He could fix anything with a Maxwell House coffee can and a roll of duct tape. Most importantly, Bill was a kind, gentle, compassionate heart with a witty sense of humor who left an indelible mark on all he loved. He will be greatly missed and remembered. In addition to his devoted wife, Beverly, Bill is survived by his children, Scott McCarthy of Stamford, CT, Kim McEntee and her husband, Stuart of Duxbury, MA, and Rod McCarthy and his wife, Julie of Hudson, NH; his grandchildren, Michelle McEntee and Shane McEntee both of Duxbury, and Josh McCarthy and Kristina McCarthy both of Hudson, NH; as well as several nieces and nephews including Joanie Cellupica and Grace Griffin. He was also a brother of the late Joan Trainor and the late Leo McCarthy. Visiting Hours: There will be a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts / New Hampshire, 309 Waverley Oaks Park, Waltham, MA 02452. Arrangements by Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, TEWKSBURY, MA 978-851-2061. I was so saddened to hear last week about Bills passing this pat Nov.

Bill, Bev, Scott, Rod & Kim were always like a second family to me and I always was and felt welcome in their home.

I owe some of my fondness memories of the late 70´s to the Tewksbury Crew, though I was particularly close to Rod and Kim, Scott would occasionally bust my chops, haha

I hope everyone and their families are doing well and in knowing that Bev had the best husband and the kids the greatest dad !

I consider myself fortunate to have known Bill and Bev and I hope that the little bit of good I may have in me is in part because of them.

Bill had a great way of smoothing out problems and could take the edge off of a situation so everyone came away happy. A truly good man. So sorry to hear of his passing.
