Walter Malone Obituary

MALONE Walter Joseph Malone Jr., age 76 of North Branford, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009. He was the husband of Joan Rice Malone. Born in New Haven, December 28, 1932, he was the son of Walter and Estelle Walczak Malone. He resided in Stratford for more than 35 years before moving to North Branford seven years ago. A Staff Sergeant in the Regular Air Force, he served his country during the Korean War. He was employed as a technical engineer with IBM for more than 39 years retiring 17 years ago. He had a passion for gardening and was an avid fan of both the New York Rangers and the New York Giants. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven Malone of Derby and Mark Malone of North Branford; four daughters, Diane (John) Spinato of Hamden, Lynn (Ray) Semlow of Trumbull, Patty Malone Urquidi of Stratford and Denise (Michael) Schilling of Bridgeport; 11 beloved grandchildren, Katie, Stephanie and Sara Malone, Danny and Joe Spinato, Michael Detuzzi, Andy, Tom and Jake Urquidi and Jimmy and Jeffrey Schilling; a sister, Marian (Orrin) McFarland of Northford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Nicholas Detuzzi; and his brother, Russell Malone. Funeral from the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Rd, North Branford, Monday morning at 9:15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese Church, 105 Leete's Island Rd., Branford at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. I lieu of flowers, donations in his memory, may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-9813 or the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897.
