David Crandall Obituary

David C. Crandall, 85, Bradenton, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. David was born to a cattle dealer in Dewittville on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York on June 9, 1920. He was the only child of Clyde Carey and Georgia (Colby) Crandall. David served four years with the Army in Europe during World War II. In November 1945, he married his sweetheart, Oleta Mae Loomis. David and Oleta had three daughters, Patricia, and identical twins Marilyn May and Carolyn Kay. David was a carpenter and partner in a homebuilder group in Westfield, New York. Due to harsh winters, he moved his family to Bradenton in 1959. After over 30 years as a letter carrier, he retired from the United States Post Office in Manatee County. David and Oleta moved to Westminster Towers on Wares Creek in downtown Bradenton in 2001 where they enjoyed the beautiful scenery and many walks along the water. His beloved Oleta went to be with Jesus three years later. David continued to develop many friendships at the Towers. David was an avid reader, loved to travel and walk outdoors. David was a devote Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a deacon and worked with the finances and used his carpentry expertise. David was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Oleta in September 2004, and is survived by his three daughters; Patricia & Johnny Caldwell of Bradenton, Carolyn & Dale Hays of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marilyn & Rick Speece of Bradenton. Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law; Marlene and Bud Robbins of Westfield, N.Y., Alice Wannenwetsch of Milford, Ohio, Jean Loomis of Tavares, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 4p.m. on Monday (today) at Calvary Baptist Church in Bradenton. Private inurnment will take place at Palma Sola Cemetery in Bradenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Program at Calvary Baptist Church, 3006 9th Avenue West, Bradenton, Fla. 34205 in his memory.
