Cynthia Norwood Obituary

GUILFORD -- Cynthia Renee Norwood, 46, of Weatherhead Hollow Road, died Feb. 24, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her friends and family, after a long battle with colon cancer.

She was born in Nashville, Tenn., on March 11, 1957, the only daughter of Joseph and Grace Justice Norwood, of Goodspring, Tenn.

Ms. Norwood graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, Ala., in 1975. She was involved in many school activities, include drama, art and sports.

She attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham, where she studied nursing. She also attended Bessemer (Ala.) Technical Institute, where she majored in drafting and mechanical drawing.

She married Gary L. Knapp on July, 4, 1992, at her grandparents' farm in Tennessee.

After moving to Vermont 20 years ago, she became well known as a gifted graphic artist. She worked at The Prompt Image, Howard Printing and the Town Crier in Brattleboro for a number of years, and as a freelancer doing programs for the Friends of Music at Guilford, calendars for the Marlboro Historical Society and advertising work for numerous private clients.

Before her illness, she was employed by the Windbrew Corp., and Lucca Bistro. She also did accounting work for her husband's business, Knapp-Wood Co.

Ms. Norwood was a strong and independent woman who was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a very deep and spiritual person who found good in everyone she met. She was passionate about her interests, which included cooking, gardening, mineralogy, reading and her dog Rosie.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is survived by her son, Nathan J.C. Knapp, of Guilford; two brothers, Marty Norwood of Goodspring, Tenn., and Joey Norwood of Huntsville, Ala.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Guilford Community Church in Guilford.

To Cindy's family:

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Cindy's passing. I went to high school with Cindy and her brother Marty. Cindy, although quiet by nature (and the fact that she had so many outgoing friends in drama), was very easy to talk with and was a very good friend. I hadn't seen her since 1974, but it looks like she had a great life...albeit shorter than we would've liked. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To Cindy's family and friends,

Cindy was a wonderful, caring friend and a very spiritual person. I lost touch after moving to Florida but received updates on her from mutual friends. I thought of her often this last year. I regret that the letter I wrote to her often in my head never made it into her hands. Perhaps she felt the connection anyway.

Cindy came to my aid whenever I stumbled. She was all about service to others. Some of my funnyiest memories are working out with Cindy and Nancy and then going to Walker's for burgers and ice cream sundaes afterward. There was always a lot of laughter.

May her spirit live on in the lives of those she touched. My prayers are with her family.

To Cindy Norwood's family and friends,

Cindy was a wonderful person, she was warm, loving, and always found the good in everyone that she met. I had lost touch with Cindy and I was schocked to hear of her passing. She will be truly missed by all of her friends and family.

Her spirit will live on thru friends and family.

To Cindy's Family & Many Friends:

I am extremely saddened to learn of Cindy's illness and death. Although we lost touch because my family doesn't live in the Brattleboro area anymore, amazingly, Cindy was on my mind yesterday ~ which I believe is a testament to her intense spirituality. She was absolutely one of the most gentle souls and loving human beings I have ever met. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family at this sad time and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful person and a great friend.
