Daniel Atwood Obituary

Daniel Guy Atwood was born on October 10, 1944 to William Guy Atwood and Hazel Louise (Porter) Atwood in Brush, Colorado.

He passed away at the age of 64 on March 5, 2009, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley Colorado.

On February 12, 1967 Dan married Marie Green.

To this union, one son, James and two daughters, Annette and Angie were born.

In his youth, he worked as an apprentice butcher at the Brush Locker.

Most of his adult life, Dan worked in the oil fields. His career took him to many states and the off shore oil rigs in Nigeria. Dan was an avid outdoors man.

He lived for his hunting trips with his son, grandson, and buddies. He enjoyed fishing trips with his grandchildren.

Dan also loved horse races and rodeos, never missing an Akron Downs or local rodeo.

Every grandchild was taught how to play checkers. When they were good enough to beat him, his teaching was done.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents William and Hazel Atwood, brother Louis Atwood and grandson Robin Atwood.

He is survived by daughter Annette Sampson and fiancé Rodney Blake, daughter Angie Morgan, son James Atwood and wife Elie all of Akron, eight grandchildren Brian, Brandi, and Braden Sampson, Amber and Randa Morgan, Heather Atwood, Michael and Megan Hansen, sister Rachel Quebbeman and husband Joel of Wichita Falls, Texas, brother Willard (Butch) Atwood and wife Arlene of Fort Morgan, Colorado, sister-in-law Phyllis Atwood of Otis, Colorado, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Services were held Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Brenner Funeral Home in Akron, Colorado with Pastor Bob Butz officiating.

Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery in Yuma, Colorado.
